I will tell you that it took me until at least page 100 to get in to the first book and if I didn’t have a friend who wouldn’t let me stop, I probably would have. But once I got past that point I couldn’t stop and was very glad I didn’t.
The romance is most significant in the first couple of books – later on the focus changes to “bigger” things. I’v read the series 3 times and I intend to reread them again some time, probably next spring 🙂
I have been watching the PBS series , “The Great American Read”, and last night they announced the top 5 books out of 100 voted on . The Outlander series came in at number 2 . That ‘a a pretty good recommendation for me.
Depends what you’re looking for…. I read the first book, and thought it was a good story and well-written, but there was much more of a romance angle than I prefer! Basically, if you like historical romance, or historical fiction and can ignore the romance, you should enjoy it!

I liked it. Just be aware that there will be slow parts. Some people do not like them.

I’d say watch the TV-show, it’s better. It concentrates more on the plot and not Claire and Jamie shagging.
I didn’t like it. It’s a good story. But has too much sidelines. It took 700 pages to tell a story that could be told in 300.
Most people like it so give it a try! It wasn’t for me but chances are that’s unusual.

I do too! And yes I’ve read the books. It’s one of the few times I would say I like the show/movie over the book it’s based on.
