If Beth Hodgson isn’t interested, I might be. Message me with how many books and how much?

@Allison go for it! Get books from her first, and then I’ll see what she has in a little bit. I’m doing chores and errands this morning, but I’ll hit her up later. Take first pick!

Beth Hodgson you sure? I have so many books sitting around that it’ll be a while before I get to them, so you really can take your pick first, if you’d like

@Allison one person suggested the sevenwaters trilogy. I’ll start with that and get that from you if you have. 🙂

I’ll have to go through my books and see if I have it still. I loaned it to a friend a while back and I’m not sure if she ever returned it…

My best friend lives with a ML book near her at all times. She claims that ML is the best writer ever.

Ive read crown of vengeance by mercedes lackey and james mallory. It was super slow and bored the hell out of me. People keep telling me that james mallory isnt very good, so im definitely willing to try another mercedes lackey book. I think it was just a bad choice for a first read of hers.

I get like this with Robin Hobb. Everyone loves her books, but they drive me nuts!

Beth Hodgson ive yet to read one of hers

@David You should give it a try and just see if you like her, as I could be just the one-off person. For me her books are super boring (especially in the middle of her books the plot is non-existent) and really depressing. I don’t mind depressing books, but there is something about them that isn’t even fun to read. And the fact her character names are so silly that it’s like reading a children’s book at times.

Beth Hodgson im definitely gona read some hobbs in the future. I have a bunch of her books, they just havent been chosen yet in my random lottery drawing that determines the next book i read. lol! Ive definitely noticed that i tend to like more less known authors and the more well renowned fantasy authors dont tend to give me the same satisfaction as alot of other people. But thats alright. What is your favorite fantasy author?

@David that’s a tough one, since I’ve had favorites but they do write a book that disappoints me. I do like Joe Abercrombie a lot, his characters are fantastic, and his adults act like realistic adults. I enjoyed Brent Weeks (until his 3rd lightbringer, one of his characters irritated me.) I liked Goodkind’s SOT until after the 7th book, though I read the whole series. I have loved and hated Sanderson, his first book in the Stormlight is one of my all-time favorite books, but oathbringer is my all time least favorite book. I have enjoyed George r.r. Martin, his books are really well written have not disappointed me at all, but I’m over the hype so to speak haha! I also have really enjoyed Christopher Paloini, even though he is YA fantasy. His storytelling is really captivating. So I’m kind of all over the map. I also read a lot of historical fiction, so I do have favorite authors in that genre.

Sorry so long!

She’s amazing! She’s like my second all time fav author and even tho haven’t read all of her series the ones I have read are fantastic. As a fantasy writer I think she’s awesome and I love how she writes and puts her own special twist on things. The series of hers I love the most are set in the Britian in the late 1800s early 1900s and they’re fairy tale retellings with magic and so much more. Those are 500 Kingdoms and Elemental Masters series and I suggest starting with them if you like fairy retellings ?. Diana Tregarde is more modern and not a retelling series but it’s really good series too

Read her “old” stuff! Very good. Her newer books not nearly as good.

Love her older books, but I have not read any of the newer ones yet.

Her Obsidian trilogy and Enduring Flame trilogy are very good. After those then read Crown of Vengeance. Read only if you are into elves, and dragons and lots of magic. Oh and of course Demons 🙂

I really enjoyed her older Valdemar books, and the Bedlam’s Bard series. However, her newer Valdemar stuff has been utterly awful and I quickly found that she likes to go back to using the same old tropes, and unfortunately not in an original way, so I felt that after reading Bedlam’s Bard, I’d already read it all. I haven’t bothered reading her newer series (so I’ve no idea what they might be like), or buying the latest Valdemar.
Stick to the older stuff, is my advice.

Read a few of hers on recommendation. Can’t say they did it for me. The first was fine, but I felt the other stories were repetitions.

My step-aunt swears by her though.

I LOVE HER HERALDS OF VALDEMAR SERIES!! The first trilogy, ‘arrows of the queen’ i have read so many times my books have fallen apart. They are easy but enjoyable reads.

Some are good (I really like By the Sword), but I think a lot hers feel like things jsut happen too easily! Probems are too easily solved, not a whole lot of nuance, a lot of the build up is extremely obvious.
