-terrible writing

-main characters/love story is cliche and garbage
-side characters are WAY more interesting
-every 6 pages is another stupid YA cliché
-literally had to force myself to finish the first three books while promising myself “it’ll get better eventually”
-literally everyone I know that gushes about it also gushes about Twilight and I personally can’t handle that

Horror, fantasy and thrillers tbh. I’ll read a YA novel here and there, like Dumplin’ or Everything, Everything but for the most part, I try to find something without a heavy romance plot or too many character cliches.

I barely got through the first book, gave it another go with the prequel trilogy – and I just can’t read it. Maybe try getting the book from the library or on Audible – at least then you can just return it if it’s not your cup of tea 🙂

NO from me but YES to TIF (WAY better writing and much more concise story) The Infernal Devices feels like she actually planned the plot and character development whereas the mortal instruments was very haphazard with both

I liked it quite a bit at the time of the release, but there’s been some plagiarism issues (http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/culturebox/2016/02/author_sherrilyn_kenyon_sues_cassandra_clare_for_copyright_infringement.html) so I feel somewhat uncomfortable with the series now.
If you like historical and paranormal stuff, I recommend her ”prequel” series, The Infernal Devices, instead. Same world, same funny writing but in victorian England and without any questionable creativity
