Is fifty shades a good read? Ive heard a lot about it but I’ve been on this debate for a while. Is it worth the read or not?

No it sucks
Personally I have not been able to finish them. I know many who liked it but I didn’t make it through the series
No its bad!
Horrible.
No do the Gideon Cross series….. way better
Love this series
Poorly written mommy porn imo.
I finished the 50 hsades series due to having bought the box set and waiting for it to get better. It doesn’t but that’s just my opinion.
Nothing wrong with”:mommy porn” if written well! 🙂
No nothing wrong with it but fifty shades is poorly written.
Big time
I stopped reading after page six as I found it to be poorly written. There is better written erotica out there if that’s what you’re interested in.
Exactly!!!
I liked the Crossfire series by Silvia Day a lot more then 50 Shades.
These are the ones with Gideon Cross ?
I believe so. It’s been a while since I read them.
Me too but the Authors name sounds right,
Crossfire was much better
I’m not proud of this, but read the trilogy. It’s all horrendous. Go with the Crossfire series! Way better written!
Read the book. If you like it, great. If not, oh well. Personally, I didn’t like the first book. But I did like the second one and I loved the third. I’m glad I kept going because I seriously thought about not picking up book two after I got done with the first one.
i didn’t like it at all ,it’s poorly written but i think that you should go for it and read it to have your own opinion about it
Shes right what othersmay not like you may love so try it and see.
I wanted my time back when I was done with it.
Depends some liked it and some didnt
I agree with @Nour. I didn’t like it but many did.
I, as many others here have said, don’t care for the trilogy. But I recommend you read it and form your own opinion. I recommend Anne Rice The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. So good!
meh
i enjoyed all the books, even boughts and read ‘Grey’. i agree it is poorly written but whilst reading i can sort of fill in bits to make it a better read for myself, if that makes any sense what so ever??
I totally agree with you here xxx
I agree read it if you want. I have read Twilight, 50 shades, and Crossfire series’. Crossfire was my favorite.
Everyone says they are poorly written. But I’ve read worse…..
Just try em. You’ll know right away if you like or not. I don’t really understand why people hate them so much. Or hate the author so much. **shrug** just try them
No,I really DON’T understand WHAT people saw in this book, the whole premise is VERY disturbing,I personally think anyway
Anne Rice a MUCH better read
Yeah it’s poorly written but I really enjoyed the story.. just being honest.
Actually this series is what inspired me to keep reading. I say give it a try.. each book in the series is a little slow in the beginning then picks up the pace a few chapters in.. in the end I was happy with it even tho there is alot of things that drove me crazy along the way. It’s worth a shot
It’s good for what it is. If you like that kind of novel then you may like it, but don’t expect a literary masterpiece of course. Personally, I enjoyed it for what it is. It’s not the best thing ever, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I agree!!
Book is way better then movie
Definitely I was disappointed in the movie
Me too. The guy was ugly
He was ok but the girl drive me nuts. Didn’t like her at all
Me personally. I love the story line but all the sex does get annoying.
If you are not a stickler for meaningful story lines, riveting prose and quality, go for it.
I read a few pages and knew I would be tearing my hair out at how badly written it is.
I got a kick out of Ellen Degeneres’ “reading”:
https://youtu.be/on3JCwnwHbU
For me it’s not. Because of the kind of genre
Yes and no. I read the whole series once, but I doubt I’ll read it again. It got boring.
I read Fifty Shades of Grey and upon completion, I picked up GONE GIRL – after reading exactly one page of GONE GIRL, I found more meat, more meaning, more richness in words, plot, description, time, day, weather, emotions, intelligence, dialogue – you name it – in the FIRST Page of GONE GIRL, that I found in the the entirety of Fifty Shades of Grey – so there you have it – in a nutshell!! 🙂
N.o.
It reads exactly as it is…twilight fan fiction. So, if you enjoyed that if you read it then go for it. If you haven’t read it…well it’s not top quality reading.
And we are talking GONE GIRL, folks, not Anna Karenina or The Great Gatsby either …. ha ha (Don’t mean to be mean, did sort of enjoy 50 Shades, but there is not a lot there THERE, if you know what I mean ….)
I loved it
Honestly, I believe it was poorly written but the over all plot idea was good… it’s an interesting read.
Couldn’t get past the first chapter. Poorly written. Very poorly written.
Worth the read. I read all 3. It’s like an adult twilight.
Booooooo!?
Don’t do it. It is HORRIBLY written and a horrible misrepresentation of the bdsm culture and lifestyle. It is also super repetitive
If you like “spicy” books check out the Love At Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks. It’s paranormal romance but it’s really good!
Its nothing like an adult twilight…… Its a BDSM love story poorly written. It had potential to be a great series but its was so empty feeling. Lack of true description and heartless. I missed the feeling of stepping into a book and being there. It was so lacking that you couldn’t leave your reading chair to even sneak a peak.
I love all kinds of genre and yes even the house wife smut….. bjut this was just sad. Check out the Author Silvia Day. Shes amazing and her book series Crossfire has the same feel but way better written and the story line is fantastic…. and so is the sex 🙂
Yes i love it
People think it is poorly written, however I think is an accurate representation of how some 20 ish women really think and speak. I’ve read worse.
If you like that sort of book. I found it to be terrible.
The characters are not like able and there is a very very weak plot. The people who like it are only reading it for the sex scenes.
I would not read it; it sounds like it’s junk. There is so much good stuff out there!
Don’t do it!
I watched the movie…it had a very odd ending, no closure, no … nothing???
Because the movie was only the first book.
It’s not well written
I read through the first one and then started the second one because I didn’t like being left hanging, but i couldn’t finish the second one. I got bored with the storyline and constant sex. I found myself skimming through the sex scenes and thinking ‘good grief, give it a rest already’. Lol
It was a good read but grey was better because it was his pov
Must confess…I’ve read all three probably 8 times. Granted it’s definitely not well written but I myself loved them.
I liked the love story in it.
I have a tendency to skip when I get bored so I made it through 2 than decided there was not much use reading 3 as I could see what was happening already.
Oh my!
I couldn’t get through it. It sounded very very juvenile, which was weird because of the subject matter. I really wanted to like it. But no.
Look up “Horrible phrases from fifty shades” on Google and save yourself time reading utter ‘vomit” …to quote the great Stephen Fry.
No
Not really
Books are terrible!!!! Maybe I could save the first one but the other two are junk….inexistent plot and bad written, simply horrible
If you like like that particular type of perversion the I guess it is, if not , I would definitely choose something else. This book/series is very graphic & twisted.
Second book in I enjoyed.
I was pretty disappointed after all the hype but I read all three.
What is a “good read”? 50 Shades, good literature? No. Commercial success? Yes. Ephemeral pleasure? Wholly subjective and I read all 3 AND saw the movie!
i read all 4 books and liked them. didnt care to much for the movie. the books are better
4 books? Oops, missed one, then.
@Veronica they released one last year called Grey that is from his point of view.
Yes I read them all and love them.
I loved it xx
decent porn
its a great read even if you take out the porn. I loved them all
I’ve read it, if you like bdsm a little, you might like it. Try it out, why not?
No
Is it worth the read ????? I must have read it a zillion times…lol
I wouldn’t bother unless you like soft porn
I truly enjoyed it not in the perverted way everyone talks about but for the essence of the plot and the characters. I enjoyed Grey as well which is the first book from Christians POV
I tend to force myself through the books i read if i dont like them. I once read ‘about a boy’ and while it was written well and the plot was a good one it was a VERY slow book i felt and thus i didnt enjoy it as much as i usually enjoy my books. I kind of get the feeling this series may do the same and be more brutal because i love writing myself and im not sure i could handle an unwell written book right now. Its the only book i ever read that i didnt REALLY enjoy and my spirits were broken because i thought all books were great. Lol i came out of that state of mind eventually and i did actually enjoy the book to a point but i really dont want to put myself in that situation again. Im leaning towards skipping this one to be honest. I appreciate ALL the imput and maybe one day ill be able to pick it up. For the experience but right now i dont think a read like fifty shades is for me. Thanks guys!
I have them as keepers on my shelf…it was the heart of the story…there is a plot and backstory to Grey…and I personally liked them enough to pay full retail and keep them for future reading…they will never be loaners…
I read only one page in the middle of the book and I didn’t like it at all nor do I think I would ever read it.
