Yes I think so. A lot of times I find other book for a great deal less. The sales on the site includes the more popular books. Yesterday I got the Woman in the Castle as a daily deal book for less than four dollars. Reading wise if you are like me and can listen and work audiobooks are an awesome way to get through a day.

I’ve used it to get audio books for my child with dyslexia. Somehow, I got a bunch of “credits” and have not yet needed to actually pay for a book. I ditto what Debbie says about checking with your library, too.

I just checked and the book I want to is on a waitlist

1
Rebecca

What book are you looking for? I can check Scribd and see if they have it, if so, you could do a free 30 day trial

HeatherQuestion author

@Rebecca, thanks. I’m going to use Audible’s 30 day trial as I can listen to it through my Amazon Echo. It’s the Chalk Man by C.J Tudor

I use an app called Libby. It is free and is connected to your local library. You need a library card in your current city or county. I love it.

@Heather I had to wait a bit for the one I have now, but I just reserved it and read something else while I waited. Now I am reading one and listening to another.

@Debbie, I would definitely do that but I can’t read at the moment due to a clogged or blocked tear duct

JoAnn, you can get the information directly from the library. They will help you set up and everything.

1

Install the app Libby and use your library card to borrow an audible book.

@Heather I have audible and I do love it, but I also use Hoopla and some other apps my local library provides for free. I would highly suggest seeing what apps you can get through your library first to make sure you like it and will use it before laying out the money for audible. I started with audible because I can get books we are doing in book club I can’t always get via the library.

Definitely hubby and I both use it that we got like 5 extra credits not sure how but we’re definitely going to use them. But we do spend a lot of money with them.. but we also use the library site that has free audible books.

I had a Audible for four days this week, canceled it today… After I was done reading my book I had nothing to do… I don’t like paying $30 for a book

Denise

30.00? The monthly credit is 14.95. I have never paid that much for an audiobook

1
Laura

I wanted to read into the fire by Jeanine Frost and it was $28.95, just looked up the great alone and it’s $26… I’ve already use my free credit for the month so I’d have to pay this in order to get it.

1
Amanda

They have a 2 credit a month plan for like $22.

1
Denise

@Laura, sorry I see what you mean now. You can also download Libby or Hoopla and connect with your library to get audiobooks.

0
Laura

Yes, I have Hoopla and I love it I use it every day

1
Laura

Overdrive is another app through your library, but it has more recent books. Our use an app called Hoopla almost every day but the books are somewhat less convenient… But I always find something to read

Sometimes you just have to go for it to get the book you need at the moment. I pay sometimes for my book club books if I have to

0
Laura

Is the book you were looking for on Audible? There’s a 30 day free trial if you just want to listen to that one book I guess?

0
Reply
HeatherQuestion author

Yes.. that’s what I signed up for. Not sure how long this eye issue is going to last

0
Laura

I read you think it’s a clogged duct? I am blind, and have been for almost 20 years so I’ve heard a lot of I conditions before… I’ve never had a clogged up myself but I think it can last a couple of weeks

0
HeatherQuestion author

Ugh ? not the news I was hoping for ?. I see Drs 3/26 because I’m in a lot of pain

0
Laura

Now if you scratched your eye that hurts like hell, and you be tearing like nonstop

0
HeatherQuestion author

@Laura, who knows. Hasn’t stopped tearing for at least a month

0
Laura

I recommend yo try using some fake tears, the ones that come in the individual packs.

I am confused how exactly Audible works with the credits.. can someone explain? I know there’s the monthly fee of $14.95 but that’s all I know for sure. Thanks

1
Reply
Jacquelyn

You pay that monthly fee you mentioned and get 1 credit IE 1 book a month. They do have other plans for more money that get you more books. Sometimes they have sales and you can buy books for a lower price. After you’ve been a member for a certain period of time you can also purchase additional credits at a discount.

1
Monica

@Jacquelyn Thank you! That helps

1
Jacquelyn

@Monica you’re welcome. I find I like it for books I think I’ll want to read (IE listen to) again or things we do in book club that I can’t always get from the library.

1
Monica

@Jacquelyn my library doesn’t have some of the titles I really would like to listen to.

I love it! The monthly fee gives you any book, and I pick ones that cost more than the fee. Sometimes $4.99 books, too. Supplements my library audio books.

HeatherQuestion author

Does that mean even when you’ve used your credit, you can get another book or am I reading it wrong

Yes you can always purchase more books. You just get one “free” with your monthly subscription.

I’ve had Audible since the beginning. I mostly got it for my kids when they were small and they listened to many, many books. BTW now that they are grown their vocabulary is extraordinary and their grammar. As for me I have lots of audio books purchased over the years, but nothing makes me fall asleep faster than an audio book.
