Hard to argue that! For the US side. James Lee Burke is my favorite. I’ve never been to New Orleans but after reading 20+ of his Robicheaux novels I feel like I’ve lived there. Same with Rankin and Edinburgh especially the Oxford!!

Couldn’t agree more, although I think being familiar with the city helps add to the experience. So glad Rebus is still on the scene despite his advancing years!

i love MacBride but sometimes the amount of humour and joke almost seems to come before the crime writing

@Alex I agree, but I love the banter between Logan and Roberta.

@Denise don’t get me wrong I do also , I think Roberta Steel is a great character , I’m only on book 5 of the series and it was literally non stop banter page after page of it lol

@Denise I’m looking forward to the storyline in regards to Logan and her wanting a baby , trying not to say to much if anyone hasn’t read them yet

Ian Rankin is definitely my favourite. I feel like I know Edinburgh despite never having been there

I totally agree with the comments about James Lee Burke and Michael Dibdin, both are firm favourites. There are so many exceptional writers out there, all so different, but a few on a higher peak than others.

The Rebus novels always feel like an old friend, even the first time round. I have to admit that on my first visit to Edinburgh I geekily walked down Arden Street and went for a beer in The Ox. Been back to Edinburgh many times but not bumped into Ian yet.

I agree, Ian Rankin is excellent. Others that I also enjoy: P D James, Peter Robinson and Donna Leon.

Good luck. You can also bring one of his to the top of your list 😉

@Kay do you think I might be adding to my reading list by starting his books? ?

Yes of course 🙂 I don’t know how long your TBR list is at present but all you need to do is add, and read, the first ‘Rebus’ book ‘Knots & Crosses’ then decide whether you want to add the rest then or later.

@Kay thank you, I was going to pop over to fantastic fiction later to work out where to start. You’ve saved me a job x
