Maybe something drought related? Sherwood Nation
Author: Benjamin Parzybok. It was one of the Silicon Valley Reads selections for 2016.
The Whiskey Sea, Mrs. Kimble( my daughter read this one and could not put it down), Emma or Prude and Prejudice are two if my favorite Austen novels.
Evacuate! And take a book with you.
Tim Roof Blowdown
Salvage the Bones
I guess you could read Isaac’s Storm or Their Eyes Were Watching God. If you are looking for a distraction rather than more than you ever wanted to know about hurricanes, what kinds of books do you love?
I loved everything Pat Conroy wrote, also Larry McMurtry’s early stuff, I enjoy some of Grisham’s books, Fannie Flagg’s books are entertaining, etc.
I love Conroy also. You might like Anne Rivers Siddons. I especially liked her novel, The Outer Banks. Other authors I thought of include Maeve Binchy, early Barbara Kingsolver and Dorothea Frank Benton.
Hope all goes well.
LOVE Maeve Binchy!!! Be safe.
@Patricia thanks!
@Kimberly yes! I haven’t read anything by her in a long time!
Be safe!!
Thank you!

Love to laugh, so I’ll be looking into these! Thanks!
Have you read Sweet Potato Queens – it’s life out loud funny stuff you would love.
Yes, Vicki!?
I forgot about that book! I did love it. Must read it again. Thanks for the reminder.
You guys take care and keep us updated
@Beverly, there is a whole series of Sweet Potato Queens books! All are great!
@Vicki will do! Matt and Sarah were really happy that it didn’t take long to get y’all’s previous house boarded up!?
@Cindy – I thought of them and all the boards in the attic. Hang in there – it’s scary watching it all on national news.
Maybe a battery light too.
Absolutely, Teri!
The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, Lonesome Dove, Great Expectations or Gone With the Wind.
Yes, I loved those! Haven’t read The Bee Keeper’s Apprentice so I’m putting it on my list! Thanks!
The Beekeeper’s Apprentice is the first in a wonderful series. Read them in order.
@Ada thanks!
Moby Dick
The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger. Stay safe!
Thanks!
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardough. Amazing novel
I liked the sequel Crooked Kingdom even more than the first book.
And once i finish Glass Sword thats the next book on my list!
You probably should NOT read “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston
Wonderful book! I agree that I would not want to read a book in which an extremely damaging hurricane occurs while riding out a hurricane myself. But Cindy could be specifically requesting that!
@Elizabeth well now I’m totally intrigued!?
Let us know if you end up reading it!
@Elizabeth I will!?
Haha I thought of that one too!
It is such a good novel. If you are into audiobooks, the version read by Ruby Dee is outstanding. However, if reading and living through a hurricane at the same time does not appeal, save it for later.
@Patricia thanks for the heads up!
I’d recommend May’s Diamonds or The Light…but you know… ?
Also, The Shack if you haven’t read it.
Loved The Shack! I’ll put the others on my list, thanks!
Any book by Bill Bryson!
I just Googled him…definitely putting some of his books on my list, thanks!

Carl Hiaasen has a GREAT funny and smart book about the cleanup from Hurricane Andrew. I think it was called Storm Season. It would be perfect.
I’ll look into that one for sure! Thanks!
I felt bad about laughing at the twisted humor in it but could not help myself.
Reading the 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo….soo good
Thanks!
Just finishing “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine,” by Gail Honeyman. If you liked “Ove,” I think you’ll like this. ?Stay safe!
Thank you! I’ll put them on my list. So far just raining, but we’ve taken all the precautions we can at this point. Can’t leave because of elderly family members.
Stay safe. Sending prayers for those in the path. Take Help, Thanks, Wow by Anne Lamott and if you like mysterious books try A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena, which I am currently reading.

My husband and I both are 61 and have been through several of these storms and we take them seriously…took precautions with plenty of batteries, a generator, etc. Thank you so much for your concern!
