Sorry, just had to laugh at the „Ulysses“ one… I read (among other subjects) English Lit at university and, year after year, planned to read Ulysses over the summer holidays. I‘m nearly 50 now and have never finished the f***er (or even got past page fifty!!). The thing just isn‘t readable!! If my students ask about Joyce, I direct them towards „Dubliners“ or „A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man“. Let‘s face it, „Ulysses“ and „Finnegan‘s Wake“ are great examples of the Flow of Consciousness, but who has actually read them?! (This is meant as a serious question, so please feel free to answer! ?)
I don’t know if I will finish, but I seem to be encountering references to it quite a bit lately, so figured I should at least become somewhat familiar lol. I also want to read a bit more Camus and tackle Proust. Lofty goals lol.
A lot and whatever comes ahead… I‘m no big planner, very often, one book leads to the next and I let myself be influenced by newspaper reviews, friends‘ recommendations, „you might also like“-s on Amazon or Goodreads…
I‘ve started the Amalia Peabody series and will continue in that one, plus I‘m in two bookclubs, and we always decide on a new book whenever we meet and discuss the last one. The first two are Julian Barnes‘ „The Noise of Time“ and Coldon Whithead‘s „The Underground Railroad“, so these are a given. Also, Julian Barnes‘ „Arthur and George“ and Gail Honeyman’s „Eleanor Olphant is Completely Fine“ have been waiting on my bedside table for a while. The rest will present itself over time! I‘ll set my reading challenge on Goodreads to 50, which is realistic.
The nightingale, All the light we cannot see, the mountain between us, the invention of wings, a spool of blue thread, the help, water for elephants, the night circus, at home in mitford, the hunger games, finish a game of thrones, the light between oceans, the good girl, the book thief….to name a few ☺
More series to completion. There are so many that I’ve read the first book of but not finished. That, and I’ve been doing year long challenges that don’t leave much room for series.
More books than 2017. 24 books is hardly anything, my goal is 52 or more. I also want to read more of the books I already own so I can start to declutter my personal library. Anything that gets 3/5 or less from me on Goodreads goes!
Im a single mom with 5 children. Ill re-write this. “In 2018 I want to read.” I miss reading. I stay on this page so i can read comments and keep up with current authors and feedback. Someday I’ll have time to pick up a book again, until then…I love this page 😉
The hate you give, the nightingale… And many more!
& read & read & read & …
a few of the classics: Ulysses, Emile, Moby Dick, and On The Origin of Species. I need to take my brain off coasting mode and get it working again.
