It’s a pretty easy read, I read it when I was 13 and absolutely love it but my friend read it recently an like it, it might be not the best but it’s good it really depends on your taste. If I’m honest I lost the count on how many time I’ve reread breaking dawn lol

If you like sci-fi, The Host (by the same author) is one of the best book I ever read in my life!

I liked the first one when I read it. Of course at the time. There wasn’t so much YA/same books everywhere. It was fresh. The second one I didn’t like. The third one was just ok. When I read what was going to happen in the fourth one I skipped completely.
I did like and I still would recommend the host from that author.

I tried it as I didn’t like the film (as wasn’t aware it was a book before I saw it) and I thought it’s only fair to give it a go in it original format before I right it off.

Couldn’t finished the first chapter

I would never discourage anyone from a book because we all different.

But after grown up on blade, lost boys and BTVS
I just couldn’t get on with it

I thought the idea for the story was fine and I read the whole series, but I really disliked the writing style. I was 14 when I read it and even then I thought it was really juvenile. But that’s just one persons opinion. Always give it a try and decide for yourself because everyone has different likes and dislikes☺️

It’s a quick read and is based off a classic (which is why its base story is good). If you don’t get yourself tripped up by focusing on the writing and just let your imagination take over, you’ll enjoy it. Too many people just high-brow the writing and get all crazy about it but it’s a story like any other.

Alex

Its based off 50 shades … but alright ?

0
Tanya

It’s not based off 50 shades—50 shades is based off it. It’s actually based off classics such as Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. That’s why it’s a good base read.

Twilight first book 2005, Fifty shade of grey 2011.
Fifty shade started as a fanfiction of Twilight. 😉

I enjoyed the first and third books. The 2nd one was really hard for me to get through though. I was 18 when I read them and just read them because I wanted to know what all the hype was about at the time (when they first came out)because everyone was reading them, even my friends who didn’t read for enjoyment.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Don’t expect Pride and Prejudice, theyre YA, but I thought it was an entertaining read. The last book bugged me but not enough to ruin the series for me . I first read it as an 18 year old and have reread it several times into my late 20s.

Loved them I’ve read them twice . The only book I would say is slow is the first half of breaking Dawn which in movie form would be breaking Dawn part 1. And the other slow part would be the first chapter or 2 when Edward left which is the same as in the movie but other than that it’s a good mixture of intensity, romance, friendship, family.. I loved them .. it’s not for everyone just like harry Potter. Or for any book. But it doesn’t hurt to try reading it because you won’t know if you like it until you read it. Another awesome series is divergent alot more action and good amount of romance thrown in

@Kristin I wanted to read that but I just figured everything that was written in the regular twilight series is the same except Bella is the vampire & Edward is the human. Or is the wording completely different just same story line

0
Kristin

@Dannielle it’s completely different. All the characters expect the parents have a sex reversal. It’s really interesting.

1
Kristin

@Dannielle And it’s not a reversal of their roles just a reversal of their sexes.

Mixed feelings. Whether you enjoy them or not is pretty personal. I think they have a low re-readability on account of the writing not being very good, but if you’re really into teen-aimed romances about vampires, and like the “I’m just a normal girl” heroine then you’ll likely enjoy it. Honestly, I think Stephanie Meyers gets too much shit and that people in general enjoy hating everything that teenage girls love. I don’t think she’s a particularly good writer, but I also have my critiques of the “classic” writers like Tolkien, who are very dry. It really just depends on what you personally like and can handle. I really enjoyed her “Host” book, and wish she would write more on it rather than wasting time writing the twilight saga from Edwards perspective… to me, that seemed like a cheap money grab that only diehard fans will enjoy, much like Disney making a ton of sequels to the classic movies, that no one wanted or liked lmao. Anyway, I was very against Twilight for a while, but I’ve read all of them and I can’t say I hate them. I think all the hype against them was, as previously stated, a cultural backlash against anything teenage girls and middle aged women like. XD “Ew, girl stuff! It’s all about romance and sexy vampires and doesn’t have too much violence or dark psychological horror? TRASH!” – Fuck those guys, read what you want to.

The whole “It’s problematic and stalkerish” bit… I mean, we have a wealth of media that is problematic and stalkerish. I honestly still just think it amounts to people looking for things to hate on about it, fueled in part by a lot of teenage and young adult women of the “Not like other girls” variety, if you know what I mean. (I was totally guilty of being one of them as a teenager, so.)

I would say no, but not for the reasons that are used for twilight and literally every other book teenage girls enjoy. I personally just think that the twilight books center around a very toxic and unhealthy relationship that is romanticized to shit and i could for that reason never enjoy them

No. It’s badly written. There is no character development, the characters are FLAT. The vampire biology is utterly ridiculous, because a vampire can’t get a human woman pregnant. He’s an undead monster, there’s no live semen in his entire body. The story revolves around an insecure chick who can’t decide between 2 potential boyfriends & she’s a very WEAK character. The whole thing with this series is that there’s literally no POINT to it. Girls have no role model because the girl can’t be without a protector. Save yourself the disgust you’ll feel if you aren’t a 14 year old. Read Harry Potter instead. It’s beautifully written with excellent character development, in a rich fantasy environment with better role models.

I think as YA/teenager books they are actually pretty great. I always felt like Bella was a bit daft, which was highly exaggerated in the movies, I feel, but for a light read that is not taken too seriously it’s actually quite fun.

1
Reply
Maria

It’s very sexist and racist. Not to mention poorly written, I know that Twilight revisionism is “in” now and people remember it with nostalgia from their teen years, but it’s genuinely not good. If you want to read YA romance with supernatural elements The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series is leagues above Twilight

1
Reply
NicolaQuestion author

Maria Laura Agüero how can it be sexist if it’s written by a girl

0
Maria

@Nicola Women can perfectly replicate, engage and encourage misogynistic behavior, stereotypes and culture. The relationship between Edward and Bella is abusive, Meyer also wrote a werewolf mauling the face of his partner and the girl staying with him, and a grown man “imprinting” on a new born baby girl. Those are all pretty damn sexist and Meyer and Twilight aren’t free of criticism because “she’s a girl”

0
Kristin

Based on this thread, I’d say the theme is read what you want because the suggestions will be all over the place. 🙂

This comment is coming from someone who does not consider myself a revisionist and as someone who still found enjoyment in a fictional story with a weak (i.e. just like weak individuals exist in real life) character.

I actually read the novel when I was older (i.e. not a teen) so I was not looking for a role model. I also did not watch Dexter, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, etc. to look for a role model. If you’re looking for role models and great depth, most of the vampire novels I’ve read might not be the best choice for you.

Having said all that…you may start reading it and hate it or you might find that it has no redeeming value. In that case, this is a wonderful world with tons of books that will be perfect choices for you.

Yes for sure. Don’t listen to other ppl opinion about the series, just read it then u can have ur own. Till this day I fight with ppl that only watched the movie and thinks know more than me who read the whole series. Have a try, if u don’t like it, just stop it. One thing I can say for sure, the movies has nothing to do with the movies.

If you want to then go for it, I would suggest not reading too deeply into relationships and actions as this seems to be the main issue with the books.
