U know what I learned from this book? U can pray anywhere, u can buy a house for a homeless person in the U.S., and get over it! – why leave your own life for a year (other than to reap the benefits of a book royalty) for the wrong man!!!!
I got through Italy & about a third of the way through India & put it down! I didn’t just not enjoy it – I hated it! What an incredibly self absorbed woman. And now she has another book out that I’ve heard good things about but I refuse to waste any more time with this author!
Like to read before seeing fill but this one still in my ‘to finish’ pile of books – been there for about 18 months (am about 85% through it so have not even seen film yet!). Will finish eventually but wish I never started – good luck if you get through it
Wow! I absolutely loved that book; even recommended it to a friend going through a messy divorce. Very deep and empowering, I thought. I also love listening to Elizabeth Gilbert speak, she’s very inspirational. I once went through a lot of the Amazon reviews and was staggered by what we see here – people with complete polar opposite opinions about it. I didn’t see her as self endulgent at all. It just shows you, no two people read the same book x
It was a long time ago that I read it, but loved it and saw the movie. The follow up Committed is not so readable, includes alot of research which is kind of interesting.
I absolutely loved it because it isn’t your typical personal journey narrative in that it is very unvarnished and real while still managing to be hopeful. Her personal growth drives the narrative so it will move you.
I really think it depends what’s going on with your life at that mkment. I read it when it first came out, before the film which has given it a bit of a bad rep, and I loved it and it really inspired me. If reading it for the first time now, that many years older, I beleive I would be more critical.
I hope you enjoy it 🙂
Totally LOVED it?
Loved it … Especially the pray part !
Don’t start it! Worst book ever!

I enjoyed Eat, I started to get bored in Pray and only just managed to finish Love, I really would not bother.
Totally agree, Isabel.
I think I put the book in the paper recycle bag. Otherwise I would be willing to ship it anywhere for free!!
Hated it! Really couldn’t bear reading it and had to stop! So many good books to read i would steer clear of this one!
Felt the same as you Isabel, could not stand her!
Found it very dull.
Totally self indulgent. Don’t waste your time
Loved it, committed was a let down though ?
Nothing special!
I never finished the book or the movie. Not my favorite
Terrible couldn’t even make it to the end don’t bother
I thought it was a total waste of time…. not sure what all the hype was about
Very boring.
Amazing.

Boring, hated it
Hated it!
Steph, I loved it, others hated it. A bit of a marmite book. Read it and see for yourself. Hope you enjoy it…..Xx
But slow, speed read, or watch the film x
Ugh
I saw the author on a ted talk. She’s cool shit which means buy her book. 🙂
Totally self indulgent!
I think I’ll have to settle down with it tonight and see!!
Let us know what you think. Definitely not my usual genre but I found it very inspirational.
@Carolyn, you said that so cheerfully. I laughed out loud (literally). I was annoyed by this book and even more annoyed by the movie.
It was OK. I liked the “Pray” part of it, but I find meditation helpful and fascinating.
It’s amazing!

if you are into fun light reads then this is for you….a good beach read for sure.

I loved it
Totally overhyped and overrated book. Boring and self indulgent. A waste of time and paper.

@Janine Levi Kim – Self indulgent is EXACTLY the words I was looking for!
I absolutely loved it because it isn’t your typical personal journey narrative in that it is very unvarnished and real while still managing to be hopeful. Her personal growth drives the narrative so it will move you.
Yucky.
While everyone has individual choices in books, I would say it is a wonderful read if you fancy love 🙂
I couldn’t wait for it to end. I loved Eat, hated Pray and was mildly interested by Love. Very self indulgent.
I would not recommend,The caracter (Liz) is just very needy, and self absorbed

Self indulgent at most. Was very disappointed.
Dull
