I’m thinking about reading A Handmaid’s Tale soon. Is it worth it? Is it slow in the beginning?

I read it and recommend everyone read it, as well, but it definitely has a distinctive style. It took a little
While to get into the flow of it, but a worthwhile read!

I started it a long time ago and thought it was really slow in the beginning, but also had no idea where it was going. I didn’t get very far into it. But now that I’ve seen the series and know the premise, I think I’d give it another shot if I fell into a book hole.

It’s slow, but I still enjoyed reading it. I did watch the TV adaptation on Hulu first. I enjoyed both as separate entities since the show and the book vary.

@Tierney it was the whole premise of the book. It just felt personal for me.

Just keep in mind it’s not a story (you aren’t going to get that start to finish satisfying read you are used to). It’s a presentation of a “historical document”. So you have to read it objectively. But it’s very very good.

@Michaela thank you, I’ve had experiences where I read a book wrong ?

There’s not really a way to read it wrong, but most of the gripes Ive seen on it are because of the way it’s presented and because they were expecting a start and ending kind of story and it doesn’t give you that. So i like to tell people, they might not love the format a head of time.
