I enjoyed it. I never had any issues with Mare as a character or complaints about her love interests.

I liked it. I thought it was a strong ending. I feel that the majority of dystopian stories, people are let down by the ending because it isn’t some glorious ending. The reality of revolution and war, though, it’s never pretty and the desired end result of a new world isn’t realized until generations later.

I thought it felt hopeful but not tied up in a bow.

Hated it ? have you ever seen silver linings playbook where Pat reads the book, finished it and throws it out the window? That was me ? I felt like it brought the rest of the series down, however I didn’t love the series anyway, I enjoyed #1 but felt it all went downhill after that.

I’ve only read the first few chapters but all the changing POV had me set it aside for another time when I have more patience.

Nothing happens for more than half the book, I only read the first and last five chapters and was abil to follow just fine because nothing actually happened, just like in Kings cage where a good 200 pages are wasted on mere moping around being kidnapped. The series had so much potential, the first book was really good and I couldn’t put it down but from there they got so much worse.

(May be spoilers in here so don’t read if not finished)

Thanks everyone! I have read it and I had mixed feelings. I thought the ending was a really realistic way to end a dystopian whirlwind, just everyone taking a few steps back to recover and reflect etc.
In terms of the way the book was written, the POV thing worked for some characters (I love Evangeline) but not Cameron (I like her as a character) just didn’t like her POV voice, she did not sound like the girl previously described to us by Mare and the others? Maybe that was just me!
I did not like Mare in some parts of the series, I found she got more likeable as the series went on, although there were times when I really thought if I was in her shoes, I would not have done what she did. I’d have also been angrier ?
As always, I hate to see a villain go and I think I actually teared up at one point when Maven was talking about his execution and his mother (no idea why) it takes a lot to make me feel that sad and there was something wrenching about this.
All in all yeah, it was a good holiday read and I felt bereft when I had finished it which happens when I enjoy a series, although I agree there were some major sticking points. I’ve heard mixed stuff about the book and just wondered what you all thought 🙂

I really enjoyed the book. My only complaints were that it felt too easily patched up at the end and some things didn’t feel fully resolved (like the Lakelanders just giving up and promising to stay away). And I was annoyed that mare went the whole book asking cal to choose her and then when he finally does she needs time. It’s understandable, but still annoying.
