I’m looking to read some more memoirs/autobiographies in 2018 – any suggestions?

Currently reading Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige, recently read Anna Kendrick’s Scrappy Little Nobody and Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis was a favorite.

Happy New Years to my book living pals!?❣️

Probably everyone else will chime in with the same recommendation – but I’ll put it out there anyway – The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I read this book years ago, and it was affecting to say the least. They did a good job with the movie too, but as is the case for most of us here – I usually find something “more” when reading the story.

Omg this is my favorite genre ? (I think bc I watch a lot of tv and love American history/pop culture), so here’s a few I’ve enjoyed (in no particular order):
Mindy Kaling’s two books were funny.
Man Up – Ross Mathews was endearing.
Kiss Me Like A Stranger – Gene Wilder
American On Purpose – Craig Ferguson
In Such Good Company – Carol Burnett
Yes Please – Amy Poehler*
Chelsea Handler has a bunch but I think Uganda Be Kidding Me was my favorite.
Wildflower – Drew Barrymore
If You Ask Me – Betty White*
Seriously I’m Kidding – Ellen*
Let’s Pretend This Never Happened – Jenny Lawson*
Born A Crime – Trevor Noah* [This is an absolute must.]

* denotes a good audiobook version too.

An Autobiography by Agatha Christie is my favourite autobiography, absolutely fascinating. I also like My History by Antonia Fraser. Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady by Florence King is very funny.
Over A Hot Stove by Flo Wadlow, and Aprons and Silver Spoons by Mollie Moran are fascinating memoirs of life in domestic service in the 1930s. Wait for Me! by Deborah Devonshire is a very interesting memoir by the youngest of the Mitford sisters. The House Is Full of Yogis by Will Hodgkinson is an hilarious book about how his childhood and youth were disrupted by his father becoming a member of a cult.

Anthony Kiedis! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I read Head’s (Korn) latest memoir and thought it was one of the worst examples of writing that I’ve read.

Jodi Sweetin (Full House) also had a poorly written memoir IMO.

“A Piece of Cake” by Cupcake Brown and “Running With Scissors” by Augusten Borroughs are two of my favorite memoirs.

“Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrandt is great. “A Year By The Sea” by: Joan Anderson and the follow up to it “A Walk On the Beach” If you are in to history, “Undaunted Courage” by Stephen Ambrose is a great biography about the Lewis and Clark expedition, but it reads like an adventure novel. “Into Thin Air” by: Jon Krakauer is an autobiography about the 1996 climbing accident on Mt. Everest, it also reads like an adventure.

I liked The Mockingbird Next Door about Harper Lee and her sister Alice. It wasn’t without controversy surrounding its publication, but any insight into Harper Lee is okay with me.
