Have you read the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness? It is one of my favourite series ever!!
Discovery of witches? Yes i loved the series. Waiting for the last book was hard.
Love love loved them!!
And I have met Deb a few times now. She is such an ingelligent and fascinating speaker. I will read anything she writes!!
That is SO COOL!! What other books of hers do you recommend? I enjoyed that series so much, I really felt I was there with them, part of the family. ?
A Discovery of Witches was her first novel. She is working on a new novel though. Yayyy!!! And A Discovery of Witches is being made into a TV show which looks like it will be amazing!
@Cindy thanks!! I’ll look for it!
Really?! I had no idea. I loved that book.
The house of night series by p.c and Kristen cast 12 books 4 novellas. It’s YA vampire books. Loved them.
I tried.. I received the first 3 as a gift and I found it hard to get into them. I will give it another try. Thank you!
Labyrinth and/or Sepulcher by Kate Mosse.
Thank you.
There’s a third one in that series whose name escapes…but, yes…sooo good!
@Rebecca it’s Citadel. I only made it halfway through, as it just didn’t catch me like the first two.
The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness is also fantastic.
Caves of Steel, Foundation (Issac Asimov) or Starship Troopers, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. My all time fav Sci Fi authors
Anything by Maggie Secara. I started with the first book in her Harper Errant series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/96949-harper-errant
Thursday Next series. Jasper Fforde
A Court of Thorn and Roses series by Sara J Maas…just finished the third and canNOT wait for the next one. Highly recommend. It’s in YA, but it’s more “adult” than you would think from that designation.
Read it! And loved it!
It was hard to stop reading it.
If you like those three things, you would love Kim Harrison’s The Hollows series. The first book is a little rough to get through, but after that I really enjoyed them (be warned tho, the cover art is kinda corny ?)
Thank you. I added it to my reading list. I downloaded the first book already.
I’m jealous you have that ahead of you! I really came to adore the lead character. 🙂
The Paper Magician series by Charlie Holmburg. I just found out there’s a 4th book in the series! You’ll get magic & romance in these books. I’m on the 2nd.
Oh it sounds like a good series. I can’t find it in my online library, i will have to borrow them in hard cover. Thanks!
There’s a 4th book?
Yes, the Rubber Magician, comes after the Master Magician. Saw it online.
Oops, not Rubber, Plastic Magician, lol. Also, I spelled the author’s name incorrectly. Should be Holmberg. Maybe your library does have her? If you do the Kindle, the books are pretty cheap there. I got the first 3 for 1.99 each. Not sure if that’s the everyday price?
For some reason our children’s librarian at work doesn’t have the series in our collection so I completely missed it! It’s 4.99 on Kindle right now
City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte…oh, and the next one, City of Lost Dreams
Thank you I’ve added to my list.
The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty is amazing so far. Not a trilogy, AFAIK.
Dresden files
The Glamourist Histories series by Mary Robinette Kowal
Ohh thank you! The covers are so beautiful.
Dust series by philip pullman is nice.. or foundation series by issac asimov.. and for fanatasy fiction lord of the rings
The magicians trilogy by lev grossman. There’s a tv series too.

Have to check these out
Thank you. I have added it to my list.
Neil gaiman. Mira grant.
I never tire of recommending The Raven Boys Books by Maggie Stiefvater. It has magic, believably awkward teenagers with incredible dialogue, and it’s YA but also deals with things pretty maturely. And, magic wise, IT GETS WILD, and very different from every other YA series I’ve read.
Also, I don’t know why this is not a classic rec, but Howl’s Castle is amazing, and actually part of a series of books, so if you haven’t read it, it’s a lot of fun!
I read Howl’s Moving Castle this year…it was good!
My favorite trilogies: The Deptford Trilogy by Robertson Davies, the first 3 Bourne books by Ludlum, The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay, and His Dark Materials by Pullman.
Oh any if you like magic and long series, this is truly stunning. Violent, imaginative and funny all at the same time.

The Black dagger brotherhood series (I think it’s 13? Books now) by J.R. Ward, the Fae series by Karen M. Moaning (7 books) So, so, so good and fantastic authors!

Princess Bride
The Ceridwen Saga, all 7 books!
The Abhorsen series by Garth Nix. Wonderful.
I enjoyed the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. She has other series, currently I am reading Ship of Magic
Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson (romance, magic) soooo good! https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Fire-Thorns-Rae-Carson-ebook/dp/B004U6URJY
Oh I read it. It was a great series.
The Steerswoman series — traveling librarian-adventurer in a fantasy/sci-fi world. Might be hard to find, but your library should be able to ILL it, and it’s so worth it. ?
I need say Black Dagger Brotherhood-serie and also Black Dagger Legacy. It was first book series which I read in english. Also other books for J.R.Ward are quite good. If you read m/m romance, I must say Beautiful Monsters-series by Jex Lane.
If you like young adult thriller, I must recommend Snow White Trilogy (As Red as Blood, As White as Snow and As Black as Ebony) by Salla Simukka. It’s quite popular trilogy from Finland and the place where this book trilogy located is city where I spend most of my childhood. It is quite interesting trilogy.
Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is one of my all time favorite series
*
Department 19 by Will Hill
Ok, this is pretty obscure…but I highly recommend The Meq, Time Dancers, and The Remembering by Steve Cash. It’s about magical Basque children (but, oh so much more!) and it was a really unique series. Definitely check it out. Although, fair warning… people either love it or hate it. I loved it. It’s one that stayed with me after putting it down.
Have you read Terry Pratchett’s Disc World books? They are phenomenal and most can be read as stand alones although characters do repeat.
You didn’t mention Mystery as a genre, but the Lewis Trilogy by Peter May is excellent.
Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
Outlander
Divergent
Enders game
??
Station Eleven. It is a stand alone post apocalypse title that is beautiful.
My favorite is a shade of vampire by Bella forrest. Last I seen, haven’t had money to keep ku, there was 52 books in this one series. She has 2 trilogies that go along with it as well as a few other series as well.
Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher
If you like creepy, dystopian novels, Bird Box by Josh Malerman is great. News of the World and Magpie Murders are two of my new favorite fiction reads. For series I’ve enjoyed The Last Policeman series by Ben Winters…
Following ?
Cannot recommend María V Snyder enough – Poison Study and the rest of the series is genius x
Black Magician trilogy by Trudi Canavan. Incredible! One of the biggest twists in any series I’ve seen
At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen, Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, Every Day by David Levithan (sequel is Another Day), Peeps by Scott Westerfeld (series), Jane Steele by Lindsay Faye (it’s an adaptation of Jane Eyre and amazing)
Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey. It is a trilogy, and there are two more trilogies behind it.
Gods and Monsters trilogy by Laini Taylor
