My father’s dragon is an excellent book but it’s a bit above a 4-year-old’s level. However if you read together/to him, I’d say it’s one of my favorites.

Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin
George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell. It’s a twist on the usual story ~ more of a picture book format. I love it.

The Good Knight, good Knight series features 3 dragon siblings and is sweet not scary. Good for a 4 yo.
Cynthia Sheehan, yes!! My kids are 7 and 9 now and still ask me to read the “Good Night, Good Knight” and “Take Care, Good Knight” books to them!

Most delightful book ever.
@Libby This was a book at my Grandmother’s house when I was a kid. It had been a cousin or my youngest uncle’s book.
I loved it.
This was my son’s favorite around that age. I read it over and over. Then I gave it to my great nephew on his fourth birthday. He loves it too.
