Confessions of a domestic failure by Bunmi Laditan gets me every time. Speaks a lot to pressure and guilt as a parent and that’s a big pain point for me these days
Dancing on Broken Glass by Ka Hancock It’ll stay with you for a very long time. I have it to my sister to read last year and she called me crying when she finished it.

That one got to me too

Followed by Little Bee
@Jodie same!! I finished it at 4AM, sobbing uncontrollably, completely drunk with emotion.
It was awful. I bought A Thousand Splendid Suns shortly after but I can’t do it. It’s been on the shelf probably 10 years.
@Jodie it’s not nearly as traumatizing, but still powerful. And The Mountains Echoed is a beautiful piece of prose, too.
Maybe someday. Kite Runner messed me up. That shit was brutal. A friend of mine offered me the movie. I cannot watch that!??
The Book Thief.
Home Front by Kristin Hannah. Finished it 4 days ago and still sniffling.
