Im looking for a good fantasy series involving dragons. Any ideas????Im looking for a good fantasy series involving dragons. Any ideas???? Scott #recommend #fantasy
@Jean started well but the writing and dialogues were really amateurish. It went downhill in the next few books too soapy too aspirational. I checked out after eragon became an elf subtle racism there
Did you say that was subtle racism? Did you even read the book? The connection with the dragons did that to him. Elves didnt look like that or move that fast nor were they immortal until they connected with the dragons. They are becoming dragonlike. Not elflike.
Calm down brother. Don’t get triggered. I read the book series till the 3rd one otherwise how would i have known about it. There was a line i distinctly remember where eragon was described as the most beautiful man or the most unappealing elf. Why is being an elf aspirational? Why couldn’t a human be great in his own right. Anyway really harmless subtle racism be fairer and prettier. Oh well
Temeraire by Naomi Novik
@Stephanie wonderful writing
@Stephanie it gets boring around the third book. But the first one was really good
Sarah Kenner Thanks for the heads up. I’ve read (and very much enjoyed) the three book included In The Service of The King, but I have yet to read the other three.
Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn.
Dragon riders of pern
There are only a gazillion of em. 🙂
What kind of dragons do you like?
Smart, scheming, dragons?
Mindless killing-machine dragons?
Friendly, helpful dragons?
More the wise magical kind tbh
Well, His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik (which some else recommended above) is pretty close. It’s basically the war against Napolean with dragons and there are dragons on both sides of the war. Not really super magical, but they do fly and have various breath weapons. I enjoyed the series a lot. 🙂
Dragon master Chris Bunch
Fantasy rather than sci fi. And ive read inheritance cycle by paolini. Something along the same lines would be ok
game of thrones
There’s the Dragons Blade series but it’s about Dragons having evolved into human form.
Robin Hobb elderling world read the live ship traders trilogy followed by the rain wilds chronicles. I’ve never seen dragons portrayed in such A way
Check out the World of Linaria! Epic fantasy series full of dragons, airships, and sky pirates! 🙂
Melanie rawn dragon prince series and star scroll
Seraphina & shadowscale
Mistress of Dragons
by Margaret Weis
the dragonian by adrienna woods
Wizard of Earthsea
Dragonlance Chronicles. Or a variety of other books set in Krynn.
Read all of them and they rock. Had to mention these as they are amongst my all time favourites.
Battle Mage by Peter A. Flannery
dragon prince – melanie rawn
Robin Hobb Realm of the Elderlings
Anthony Ryan Waking Fire
@Amanda my most fav series of books EVER

@Christopher mine too
You need some Naomi Novik and Christopher Paolini in your life
Requiem by Daniel Aenson
Dragonlance or eargon
@Sydney read both series and loved em. Need something else
Not a series but it’s a really long book with them and it’s awesome and their place in the world is fantastically done.
Battle Mage by Peter Flannery.
really? dragons? throw a dart at the fantasy section of the book store.
Zebron Lemke Brent Weeks, no dragons. Brandon Sanderson no dragons. Patrick Rothfuss, no dragons. Jim Butcher, Robert Jordan, Joe Abercrombie, RA Salvatore, Gene Wolfe, Philip Pullman… no dragons… I’d say 75-80% of the fantasy that I have read doesn’t have any dragons in it.
hey man, I just like darts
Thing is ive read a lot and im really trying to fing something thats similar to eragon or dragonlance. Cant seem to get into robin hobbs style ive tried loads of times and yet his books sound so great
@Scott not trying to be nit picky, but Robin Hobb is actually not a he. She is a woman.
I just finished the Dragonriders of Pern. Really good.
@Dave My favorite dragon books.
Really ?didn’t know that
The Annals Of Drakis by Tracey Hickman and The Memory of Flames by Stephen Deas. Just to name a couple.
Thanks i think im gonna try annals of drakis. Looks like my thing and i enjoyed dragonlance and she co wrote those
Dragons of Pern ❤️❤️
Thanks guys I’ve decided on The Annals of Drakis by Tracey Hickman.
@Scott let’s us know your thoughts on it after you’re done?? ?
@Christopher will do?
Legion Awakening by Nicholas Taylor is 3 book series similar to the Eragon series. If you haven’t read the Eragon series it’s a must.
You’d probably like the shannara books by terry brooks (I particularly liked the sword of shannara trilogy) if you like the dragonlance books.
I enjoyed Age of Fire. The dragons are the protagonists.
Dragon Champion (The Age of Fire Book 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072MXP5QX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QWuMCbEQ4KMZR
Feist’s Riftwar. Start with Magician
It’s a YA series but I enjoy Brandon Mull’s Fablehaven spin off Dragonwatch to be a fun one.
My first dragon series was The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede.
The Eye of the Dragon by Stephen King is a fantasy novel about brothers- but not really dragons lol
@Sara Fablehaven has the best dragons
@Sara read eye of the dragon years ago great book although no dragons in it. Nice intro for walter o dim.
@Scott I was dipping my toe into fantasy after reading too many holocaust/Salem witch trial historical fiction novels. Eye of the Dragon was my first Stephen King. My dad recommended it. I moved onto the Gunslinger series and didn’t get past Wizard and Glass.
@Sara shame that it kinda gets going from book 5. I loved dark tower books grew up with em
@Scott I was too young. 11 or 12. The themes got a little racy for my little heart. When they tried to make the gunslinger into a movie I thought about a re-read. I feel like it will mean so much more as an adult. I just couldn’t wrap my head around some of the plot devices.
I know it does get quite deep in places. Don’t get me started on the joke of a movie though. It could have been so much better….
The elvenbane series, the Kolmor series, Joust series, the age of fire series
It’s been a while, but I really enjoyed the Jane Yolen’s Pit Dragon trilogy.
It’s not a series but, the priory of orange tree is a good choice.
Mirren Hogan has some good dragon-based books.
Temeraire-series by Naomi Novik
Anne McCaffery is a must. The Dragon’s of Pen.
Preeeeeetty sure Hobb has the best dragons. And I’ve read some dragons ?
The iron dragon
The Summer Dragon (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26068046-the-summer-dragon?from_search=true) by Todd Lockwood. Very Pern-esque, and actually written by the guy who did the illustrations for the Pern books. I read the whole thing in one day.
Joust (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13993.Joust?from_search=true) by Mercedes Lackey is a really good series too. All about fighting on dragons, raising them, and eventually throwing over the corrupt government.
Also by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton is The Elvenbane (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/176892.The_Elvenbane?ac=1&from_search=true) about elves, humans, and shape shifting dragons.
How to train your dragon, but its too childish, so game of thrones I think, I would’ve said the hobbit but it only had one dragon so it doesn’t count ?
It’ll keep you busy for awhile, too. ? (152 books)
Echoes of Fate – Philip C Quantrell – Complete Trilogy Epic fantasy world set among Humans, Elves & Dragons
