@Tiffany if you want to introduce her to fantasy, A Darkness Awakens by @Helena is a great book. I was not the biggest fan of fantasy until I read this. It’s Y.A. so nothing in there she shouldn’t read/see at her age.

My 12yr old loves the Scarlet and Ivy series and Miss Peregrine’s home for Peculiar Children series.
She should be able to handle the vocabulary, but why not ‘A Confederacy of Dunces.’ Or ‘Profiles in Courage,’ or if she looking for something a bit off beat for a teenager, try Damon Runyon’s ‘Guys and Dolls, and Other Stories.’
If she likes cats, how about the Warriors series by Erin Hunter
