Ahhhh. The Miss Read novels. English, written in the 30’s and 40’s I think. Very quiet, humorous, heart warming…after you read the first one you are hooked.
What about a series set in a small town called Barnsley in the sleepy English countryside? I HIGHLY recommend Milly Johnson series of books. Start with the first, called The Yorkshire Pudding Club. If your not from the UK id say spend 5minuyes in google earth so you can see what i mean about it been a town/ village but yet countryside and morrlands… Barnsley, along with Holmfirth, and the ouyer skirts of Huddersfield are all kind of built up of lots of little villages that have overflowed into each other. Anyway, all 13 of her books are fabulous, all stand alone plots but can be read in oublication order as some characters do intercross them. Let me know of you do and how you like them. X
The Cat Who… books by Lilian Jackson Braun and the Cork O’Conner series by William Kent Krueger. Both mystery series and so good. I don’t like most mysteries but I love those.
Karin Slaughter has a series set in a town. It’s the Will Trent series. Also Debbie Macomber.
Try Linwood Barclay’s Promise Falls series … Set in a small town outside a big city and is really good ??
