it’s an older book (‘04), but Stiff by Mary Roach was a pretty cool read!

@Sibyl I read We Have Always Lived in the Castle last year! I enjoyed it. I need to read the other two. They’re ones I forget about for some reason but know I’ve wanted to read at one point. Thank you!

Head Full of Ghosts was sooooo good. I’d consider that one the best book I read in 2018.

What kind of horror are you looking for? Thriller, psychological, slasher, paranormal? (I have many recommendations but I don’t want my comment to be a mile long. Haha.)

@Kayla Any of it honestly. But hmm… I think I would have to say that I find myself enjoying horror that gives me that super creepy feel and has me jumping every time my cat makes a sound. I loved Pet Sematary by Stephen King and The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty.

Both of those books are amazing! So in that case, I recommend:
– The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (Steven King)
– Everything’s Eventual: 14 Dark Reads (Steven King) (This is great if you want a quick read before bed or during your lunch break.)
– The Shining (S.K.)
– The Woman in Black (Susan Hill) (This is an older book but decent)
– Bird Box (Josh Malerman)
– The Little Pink Pill (K.L. Smith) (This is also a quick read but I found it to be very entertaining)
– IT (Steven King) (This is a read you’ll have to commit to but holy ****, it’s worth it. Also, note: do not read this when you’re camping in the woods and need to do a bathroom break by yourself, in the dark, at 2 A.M.)
Not all of these are creepy in the way that you were looking for, but I found all of them to be page-turners and they have definitely stayed with me after I finished reading them.

I have also heard great things about House of Leaves, but I haven’t read it yet so I can’t vouch for the validity of those claims. Haha. (Looks like my comment ended up being super long anyway. . .hope I helped!)

Read “Doctor Sleep” , the Shining sequel. They just finished shooting the movie, so you should read the book before the movie comes out.

If you can deal with cannibalism, you could read Pacific Viking.

Richard Laymon is my favourite! He writes about things that could technically happen (in the most part) and he’s pretty graphic and gory.
Endless night is my favourite so far ?

Perhaps you would like to check this one out. It’s not been out long but has had some fab reviews such as – “OMG.! The ending of this book was really freaky. I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when the description stated sci-fi, paranormal, and it sounds like a historical fiction. This book was AMAZING! The Sci-fi element is steampunk-ish creatures made from gears and bones and the paranormal aspect happens at the end (can’t say cause it will spoil it). This book had me creeped out, and I can’t wait for the second one!.” https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clockmaker-Ceri-Williams-ebook/dp/B07CRQ12CX/

The Shining, for sure. Sooooo different from the movie (never judge a Stephen King book on its movie adaptation). The pacing is FLAWLESS for a horror novel and the payoff is incredible. I would also recommend Carrie for a quick horror read. Needful Things has a good payoff as well.

Ghost Story was the scariest book I ever read. I don’t read much horror but that one sucked me in and I couldn’t stop.

I read it several years ago. Kept it to reread…
