Honestly, no. I will never read it again. It read way too much like cheesy fan fiction to me. The storyline didn’t always make much sense. Harry Potter is my favorite series, though.
I think the reason it comes across like fanfiction is because it’s a script, so the setting descriptions and transitions are lacking. The plot could have been better, but there were fun parts, too. Don’t expect too much from it and just enjoy it.
I went into it thinking of it more like an extra than a continuation of the original story. To me, the original books are finished and anything I read or watch now is like a bonus. Based on a lot of the comments I read online, a lot of people somehow missed that it was a script, even though that was said all along. Of course a script isn’t going to have the same depth and show character development the way a novel does- that’s where the magic of film making or stage production come into play, or, when reading a script- imagination! I found that I was able to picture the story as it might play out in stage as I was reading, so i enjoyed it. I definitely think you need a bit of imagination and an open mind to enjoy reading the script, otherwise it is just dialogue. I hope I can make it back to London one day to see the play, I think that would be the best way to experience it as it was intended to be experienced. It was a bit fan fictiony to me, and I don’t really delve into fan fic at all, but I did enjoy it as I kind of separated it from the original in my mind.
I loved it! I thought it was really fun to go back in that world again and see the characters. I’ll probably never get to see the actual play, so I thought it was a real treat. People get all bent out of shape about it, but I’ll take any new stories any way I can get them.
I disliked it and will never read it again. It reads like fan fiction because it is fan fiction… however, I also viewed the original series as complete and the cursed child as a bonus. If I’d never read it, I wouldn’t have missed much.
