@Alja because it’s the most amazing book that you can have an emotional connection with so that’s why

0
Haley

I have to defend Gary, although it’s about two teenagers, it truly helps you understand mortality while also teaching you about the beauty life has to offer. There are so many different ways to connect

I agree. Reading the Bible led me to atheism. Definitely something everyone should read

If I could get my hands on a good translation that is not censored, I totally would. It’s a very cool fantasy anthology.

Jalane

I agree. Reading the Bible led me to Christ. Definitely something everyone should read.

1
Adam

Definitely. I read it. Great story about rape, murder, greed, sexism, judging people, killing people for being different. You should read the sequel; the quran.

It’s essentially the same book though wrapped up in New clothing. Same themes and negativity.

Neither of these books have a place in modern society. They were both written in a different time.

I was raised a catholic. Read the bible in its entirety at 15 years old and became an atheist from the moment I finished. I don’t hate people who follow religion. I hate religion as an institution.

Just a side note my wife is Hindu and my group of friends are mixed between Muslim, Catholic, Hindu and atheists.

Jalane

Of all the books ever written, The Holy Bible gets people arguing like none other. I focus on Jesus and his teachings. To each his or her own.

Cathy I have a copy of Mockingbird I found on train years ago. It must have been left behind by a student because inside it is filled with notes in the margins and underlinings, it is a most treasured possession. Although my choice is Steinbeck, To Kill A Mockingbird is magic also x

1
Cathy

Here’s the ironic thing…I almost put Grapes of wrath. Steinbeck is my favorite author! I just read a bio of him. Loved finding out what influences in his life turned into his art.

0
Randall

What is the biography, I would like to read it.

0
Randall

Also have you read “Working Days : The Journals of The Grapes of Wrath”.

1
Cathy

It is a bit older and has a lot of info however it was a bit negative at times.

Jordan Thomas Back at you. Why not see both sides?

3
Kara

How does reading a book make him intolerant?

0
Jordan

@Kara The fact that he can’t tolerate those commenting the Bible is in fact intolerance

1
Kara

He did not say anything intolerant. He simply suggested a book. Who’s a snowflake? Dear god. Pun intended.

1
Jordan

You seem to be purposely avoiding the first part of the comment (Since people are saying Bible). And the fact that you had to resort to childish rhetoric (snowflake) says quite a lot

1
Robert

I fail to see what is intolerant about simply trying to expand people’s horizons. I don’t see anything in what I said to indicate intolerance of your views.

2
KristinQuestion author

And I fail to see why people feel the need to argue about other peoples’ beliefs. Unless they are trying to force it on you (and no: suggesting we read the Bible does not qualify as that), it’s really not that important.

2
Kara

There is no intolerance or forcing here, @Jordan. I could say “Since people are saying Harry Potter, I will say Percy Jackson.” Am I hating on Harry Potter when I say that? No. You are overreacting.

0
Jordan

I just think the two books contradict each other
