If there is a movie coming out based on a book, will you read the book before you see the movie? Be honest.

Yes! Even my husband knows my Rule! Haha
Sure will. And then not go see the movie. 🙂
Same! I usually need to wait a bit or I’ll hate the movie.
I just raced to read Not Your Daughter by @Rea because a movie is being made.
I might try but in reality I would probably just watch the movie first.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
It doesn’t make much of a difference either way for me.
Most of the time I do read the book first if I intend to see the film.
I try to!
Read the book!
I have to!
There’s a science to this for me. It depends on how much l like the director, the screenplay writer, and the cast. If the trailers make it look amazing, I’ll watch the movie first–love it for what it is, AND THEN read the book.
Truly depends on the movie, if it’s something I know I’ll read and love I’ll read it first, if I know I’ll probably not like reading it (crying entire book, author is not the style I like to read) I’ll watch the movie. I normally try a sample of the book first.
I try to. Yes.
I have always read the book first, unintenionally.
I read the book first. Got hooked on Harry Potter that way.
We read HP first too…oh yeah because back then there weren’t any movies LOL
Movie first then book.
Book first for me again for me there usually better
Yes!
I just finally read Crazy Rich Asians because movie is out soon!
I need to hurry!
Sometimes I do. I made sure to see The Hunger Games before I saw the movie.
I try to most of the time
I usually try to.
I can’t read the book after I’ve seen the movie. I like to read the book and then see the movie.
Just read You because I heard they were making a movie. I hope Providence is just as good. It’s on my list.
You is going to be a TV series on Lifetime! It premieres in September! I’m so excited. Providence was very different – it’s a bit paranormal, but she’s such a wonderful writer!
@Jamie that will be awesome!
Always!
I usually read the book with the intent of seeing the movie after, and never end up seeing the movie:)
I heard today that The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah has been optioned for a movie! It should be fantastic!
I usually try to
I don’t bother, the books are always far better.
I prefer to read the book first in most cases. There are times I am not sure I even want to read the book until I see the movie though.
I typically try to read the book first!
I try to read the book first.
Not necessarily. There aren’t many movies coming out that I actually want to see, unfortunately, so if one does, I go.
I would say no because I usually do not watch movies, but I would read the book first.
I like to watch the movie first. That way I can enjoy the movie for what it is. Then I read the book to get more .
I try and read the book first – and usually find the book is much better than the film!
Yes, I try to read The book first.
Yes
I always try. Hence one of the reasons I’m so behind on new releases lol
Book first. Movie a definite maybe.
Book first, always.
Naturally
Yes

I’ve just watch forever my girl and definitely going to be reading the book, I enjoy the film so know the book will be better!
I want to now read Brain on Fire. I enjoyed the movie, books of course have so much more detail I must read it!
I try to. It doesn’t always happen though. -Jaime
Yes.
Yes I always do
Yes
Yes, always read the book first
I have to read it before and then after I see the movie I have to go back and reread the book to compare
Always
Usually at least 75% of the time I read the book first.
Most of the time, no. But I did get the Guernsey Literary … audio book and listened to it. Now I need to find the movie so I can watch it.
If I haven’t already and I think it looks good then yes!
Yes. Book first.
Book before movie, always!!! However, I read once where a person watches the movie first before the book, that way they can enjoy both, seeing as how when you read the book first, you then closely scrutinize every inconsistency in the movie. Not how I would do stuff tbh, but it might be interesting to try. ?
No. Bcz I look at them 2 totally different things.
I try to whenever I can. Sometimes I just say “screw it” and see the movie. I won’t read the book if I’ve seen the movie first.
Yes
It depends on if I see a trailer for the movie first. If I do and the trailer looks really, really good I will wait to read the book. Reading the book then going to see the movie always makes you disappointed in the movie lol
100%, annoys my husband to no end
Yes, but I may not go see the movie after I finish the book. The movie never measures up!
Yes
Usually
it depends if I have read a book and a movie comes out have too see it. Movies after I have read the book never live up to my imagination. However if the movie comes out before I have read the book then they will be pretty even because I dont get to build the characters in my mind.

Depends, not all endings are the same. My sisters keeper is a perfect example.
I prefer to have read the book first. That way I can compare and give my husband the cliff notes version during the movie…lol
Yes
No, I’ll watch the movie and if I like it enough I’ll read the book.
Absolutely
Usually.
Though I did watch The Astronaut before I read it and I’m so glad I did. It really helped me picture what everything was but didn’t ruin the book because the movie left stuff out and it’s just a good read.
Yes
Yes. That is my book challenge every year. Books to film. So many good ones coming out this year.
