There are three starting points I feel

Neil Gaiman as a graphic novellist
Sandman

Neill Gaiman as a novelist
Anansi Boys
American Gods

Neil Gaiman as a children’a author with an adult twist
The Graveyard Book
Coraline

You can chose any of them to start off with given your comfort level. I personally read Sandman first.

He also has excellent short story collections of which I highly recommend Trigger Warning

I would also suggest listening to any of his audiobooks that he has narrated. He’s very good as a reader. The full-cast ones are really good too.

I agree completely. It is wonderful listening to Gaiman narrate his own books. Great narrator.

Stardust is the best to enter into his style I think. Or any of his short story collections.

Coraline! Such a well written book – even if it is technically a kids book. I think it’s a good introduction to Gaimam.

I’m now reading American Gods, which is the first book by Neil Gaiman I’ve ever read. I’m already quite sure I’ll be reading more by him after this one! <3

First one I read was American God’s. A masterpiece. However Anansi Boys would be a good start.
