If I read The Song of Achilles without any prior knowledge of Greek mythology, will it be difficult to follow/bore me to death?

I’ve been wondering about this too. I want to read it but I don’t know much about Greek mythology.
I read it with really no knowledge of the story and it was easy to follow, it’s a great story! It made me want to discover more on my own.
Nope! I knew so little I could only tell you about Herecelus from Disney LOL. This book gave me so many soft feelings. Such a beautifully written story!
It shouldn’t. It is a slower paced story I think but you won’t be lost if you don’t know about Greek mythology already.
Not at all! I found it very accessible.
Not at all. The book has all the background needed to keep you interested.
The only time I stopped for research was to look at maps, and that wasn’t even necessary
No definitely not required, great read?
You can do it! (I did.) It’s a great story either way.
I think it would help you enjoy the story more for its own sake. It’s a beautiful retelling but you have the advantage of a blank slate with no expectations. You aren’t expecting these characters to be anything and get to grow with the characters into who they become.
Nah, i only knew the basics when i dived in. But it did make me want to know more after!
I’ve seen this book pop up in a few posts… my question is, how does it work as an audio book?
I’m home a lot with my toddler so don’t get much opportunity to read so we listen to a lot of audiobooks while we play.
Thank you all so much! I went and purchased a copy already ☺️
