Jane Eyre
I have never read Jane Eyre – seen the movie ?
The book is much better than any of the adaptations.
@Victoria – I can’t wait to read it
Any Dickens
Any Austen
Love Jane Austin
Jane AustEn
@Sian – yes I know it’s Jane Austen- I was typing fast the another day and forgot to change it
No offence intended.
@Sian – I know – my husband called when I was trying to change it and I got busy doing something else…
An occupational hazard, I am a proofreader. 😉 Just ignore my comment.
@Sian – I try to proofread my stuff , it was just a crazy day the another day and autocorrect doesn’t help ..
no offense at all ..
However, there are so many classics, I had to read so many at uni and for work, today I would just stick to the ones I enjoy.
@Regan Thank you for not being offended.
@Sian – I want to get back to classic book , they seem to be better then books today .
Just my 2 cents, I tend to prefer the less famous works by famous authors- Neither Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte but The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë and Nor Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier but Don’t Look Now. I loved Jane Eyre and Rebecca, however the authors had written other far more intriguing novels.
Depends what you mean by classic’s of course there are many modern classics as well.
Little Women
Tess of the durbervilles is my all time favourite after little women x
Great Gatsby! I just finished it and really enjoyed it! ?
It’s on my list –
I started it and never finish it , I don’t know why I stop
I kept putting it off for the longest time. The time era doesn’t thrill me but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would
@Jocelyn – I will probably start it this afternoon
Wuthering Heights, Lord of the Flies, To Kill A Mockingbird
Brideshead revisited
The color purple
Pride & Prejudice – i absolutely loved it I was getting so emotional while reading it, at the highs and lows
Definitely Pride and Prejudice. With Christmas coming … what about Dickens Christmas Carol. ?
Mmm I think I would go for the Alistair Sim film rather than the Muppets lol
Never seen that one…but you can’t beat the original and best ?. I am going to to bed now before I get told off on my first day for going off topic. Films instead of books lol ???. Goodnight all.
Seems like 2 minutes ago!! Off to work now. All that talk last night about classical books has made me decide that I will definitely re-read Jamaica Inn again. Have a good day all ?
Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier.
Brilliant book, just thinking about starting Jamaica Inn. Have read it, but must be at least 10 years ago.
I love her work so much! Rebecca is one of my favorite books. ❤️
East of Eden
Wurthering Heights and Tess of the D’Ubervilles
Oscar Wilde, John Steinbeck, Virginia Woolf, Katherine Mansfield, Charles Dickens, Franz Kafka, D.H.Lawrence, Thomas Mann, Fjodor Michailowitsch Dostojewski, Somerset Maugham, Victor Hugo, Albert Camus, Jonathan Swift, Anne Brontë – just a few. I have read all their books, if you need any further information, please just ask. @Regan
Thank you
You are welcome.
@Sian – I’m hoping to go the library Saturday morning if not then Monday morning- I’m going to make a list of books to look for
Just start reading, if you do not like a book just because it is praised as a “classic” I would move on to the next book.
@Sian – that is my plan – my husband always ask me why I check out a lot of books I said if I can’t get in to book , I move on , sometime I came back to the book , if I can find the audiobook to help me and most of the time it does help me..
we have a small library in town so we go the bigger library ? and I loaded up on books and audiobooks
That is an excellent plan of yours. My husband only reads technical books or books about applied economics 😉
However, here is a legal free (!) link- there you can check out ( and eliminate) many books. http://esl-bits.net/
@Sian thank you so much
