Got an idea? Start writing it. Create some characters, lay out some plot points, and go to town.

“Write it. Just write it. Write it on receipts in the car while you wait for your kid to finish their piano lessons, scribble on napkins at lunch with friends. Type on crappy typewriters or borrow computers if you have to. Fill notebooks with ink. Write inside your head while you’re in traffic and when you’re sitting in the doctor’s office. Write the truth, write lies. Write the perfect spouse. Write your dreams. Write your nightmares. Write while you cry about what you’re writing, write while you laugh out loud at your own words. Write until your fingers hurt, then keep writing more. Don’t ever stop writing. Don’t ever give up on your story, no matter what “they” say. Don’t ever let anybody take away your voice. You have something to say, your soul has a story to tell. Write it. There is never any reason to be afraid. Just write it and then put it out there for the world. Shove it up a flag pole and see who salutes it. Somebody will say it’s crap. So what? Somebody else will love it. And that’s what writing’s about. Love. Love of the art, love of the story, and love for and from the people who really understand your work. Nobody else matters. Love yourself. Love your work. Be brave. Just write.”

I can’t take credit–Melodie Ramone wrote this…I believe she is an author. She says it all!

I just sit down and write…sometimes I’ll put my headphones in and it helps get the creative juices flowing….but seriously…just write!

Just start outlining and writing. Check your local bookstore and library to find a writing group where others before you have written and share in the craft.

If you have an idea, just sit down and write. Don’t worry about revising and editing until you are “done”. Then revise. When revisions are good, edit ( best to have someone else do this for things you miss)

Just start writing. You will surprised how fast the words will start tumbling out. Pick something you are familiar with or something that happened to you.

Write, study the craft and then write some more. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009JVIMU6 I know this is a little bit of self-promotion, but I teach beginning writing classes. I put the lessons I teach into this book. There is a lot of basic information out there for beginning writers.

Think of your story and start writing.

Study the craft, read a lot, then write, write, write everyday or as often as you can. Good luck.

Would definitely read Stephen King’s On Writing. Fabulous read, he even had me believing I could write by the end. ?
Seriously, it is terrific. Best of luck.

Write your book but also get to know some indie authors who can help get you into an awesome community and help you find the tools you need. 🙂

I think a good fiction writing course will come in handy and prevent you making beginners mistakes. Then it’s just sit and type, think, think a lot, write down ideas, always bring a notebook to jot down interesting things you see and hear… Good luck!

First step is have an idea. Second step is start reading a dictionary and thesaurus, and spend some time on Grammarly. Third step is start physically writing, the human brain works better with added physical movement.

The more you write the better you hone your craft, just like the saying says, practice makes perfect. So basically, just write. You don’t need any fancy software, I use Word.

One word at a time. And keep editing all the time. Seriously, I suggest creating an old fashion outline for each character and one for the overall story. Keeping your characters true to the profile you make for them and the direction you want the character and story to go is vital

One more tip*** to add:

Be HONEST and REALISTIC.

Just because we all have brains doesn’t mean we’re psychologists; just because we have a uterus doesn’t mean we should breed.

Just because we have hands doesn’t mean we should write.

***I don’t know you from a bar of soap, take my words personally but don’t think they are derived from you.

First, get some books on the craft of writing. Decide if you want to publish it, then decide if to self-publish or submit to a traditional publisher. If you want to submit to a publisher, then you need to decide what publisher that would be…and get their author guidelines. Each publisher has different guidelines as to how they want the story written and what genre they will accept…it’s the same for non-fiction. Try to find someone that is teaching writing classes or take some through a local college. And the important thing as Patricia said, it just put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard and write. Don’t try to make it perfect the first draft, just get your thoughts on the paper….and clean it up later. Good Luck.

Awesome notes, Sunny! I also need this.

My suggestion, just start writing. Let the thoughts flow and don’t stop to edit or make changes. You can always go back and make changes. If you have an idea for the book the words will come! Wishing you the best!

Keep a small notebook (real paper) with you at all times . . . it’s strange the places you will think of a subject or a line you can use . . . then pull that notebook out .. . write it down. Dedicate this NB to your thoughts . . . and later, whalla . . . you read back and can’t believe how creative you are . . . then get ambitious . . . and dedicate a fall and winter to write nightly . . . next thing you know . . . you are a writer (I wish I’d take my own advice after all these years???? ) 😉
