It’s very different. Different themes altogether. The book focuses on race a lot, not just sexual orientation. I recommend you read it.

Hello. This is a rare occasion when I preferred the TV series, even though I am a huge Atwood fan. I haven’t yet watched the new season I am waiting until they are all available on HBO.

It was filmed before the presidential election in 2016. If 45 hadn’t of won, I feel it would have been viewed in an entirely different light.

@Ang perhaps. The tea Party with their defined women roles. Were, remain frightening.

you have to look at the book and the tv series as two different entities. Both fantastic but both different.

Different in so many ways. I recommend both.

The plot of the book is covered probably in the first 4-6 episodes so you did not miss that-Margaret Atwood is even in one of the early episodes. What you did miss is the writing which in my opinion is elegant and amazing!

It is very different. The book was written in the 80s and the main character remains nameless throughout the book. In the show, they modernized it for TV and while some of the plot points remain the same, the characters are different than the book (such as age, color of skin). The second season takes place after the book ends. Reading the book, we were never given the closure we needed.

An interesting point to note is that Margret Atwood didn’t create any new laws for her book or the show. Everything that happens has happened at one point or is currently happening in the world. The book is definitely worth reading.

@Ris Thats what makes the show so terrifying.

No, the series expands on more than the book does.

No the show covers everything in the book and more. It’s one of the few times I like a show adaptation better than the book!
