I read this as a young teenager. It was so scary! His movies are always a bit cheesy but his books allow your imagination to do the heavy lifting. And boy, it will work overtime on this one. It’s a perfect King book!

Should I read the book before the movie or do you think it would disappoint me after watching the movie?

I’m currently reading it (page 188) and so far so good, very creepy but I haven’t encountered anything terrifying yet

@Dawn this makes me sooo excited! I can’t wait for the terrifying parts! This is my first King “horror” book, I just read his thriller ones in the past

Dawn

@Mira, I bet you will love it all. I had read many of his books, this was the last one for me. ??

@Krissy how was the movie? I’m not sure which I should do first. I really want to read the book first.

@Breanna the movie can prob wait. I’d do the book. I feel like I really liked the original movie but I don’t remember it. I’m going to read the book & rent the original once I finish the book. This remake was decent, but it’s nothing that can’t wait.

If you like King, you should love it. I can still remember going around my apartment and turning all the lights on before I read the last chapter! ??

Also the old movie is an absolute classic. I’m not sure about even seeing the new one because I loved the first one so much.

Definitely read the book. Saw the movie it was ok but definitely not what I expected. The original is scarier and stays truer to the book.

It was scary when I was in elementary school, but that was the first King book that started my love of his stories!

I watched the orginal back in the 80’s and just recently listened to it by audio. My hubby says, It’s the most scary book he’s ever read by King…Now, with watching the movie I felt it was scary but not terrifying…as for the audio I felt I would have been disappointed if I’d actually read it….So, I’m glad I chose audio; the last 2 cds were the scary….overall I’d give it a 3.5/5….

I always like his books better than the movies. The
books have humor and peoples thoughts whereas the movies turn out just to be just horror movies

The book is ok but not, IMO, very scary. Most of the classic scary scenes from the movie are not in the book, it’s a lot more subdued and a bit less hokey!

Books are usually better than the movie, because the reader is free to use his/her imagination.
