I want to read more audiobooks, but I am a terrible listener

I want to read more audiobooks, but I am a terrible listener ? Can I get some audiobook recs that have a compelling enough plot to keep me interested but don’t require intense listening at every second for small details? Very specific I know ? I listened to Daisy Jones and the Six recently and that one did it for me! I’m open to any genre at this point.

I had this same problem when I started! the Butterfly Garden was the first that kept my attention. Also, I found memoirs easier to listen to in the beginning. Then I moved onto YA fantasy (Lunar Chronicles ?) and now that I’ve worked that muscle, most audiobooks keep my attention. Like anything else, I think it takes practice. Enjoy!

I find that listening at 1.5x speed helps me pay better attention! For the first few minutes it may make a narrator sound chipmunky but then you get used to it and it sounds normal. Funny authors’ memoirs read by the author are almost always great – David Sedaris, Jenny Lawson, Nick Offerman, Augusten Burroughs.

Anything narrated by Frank Muller. I love The Talisman by Stephen King! Also if you like Neil Gaiman, he narrates many of his own, and his voice…. ?

Listening at 1.5x definitely keeps me interested, i found Red Rising to be really well done and kept me active listening through the whole series

The more you listen, the better you’ll get at it! I got into audiobooks by listening to Harry Potter while coloring adult coloring books and then celebrity memoirs read by the authors. Lauren Graham’s Talking As Fast As I Can and Anna Kendrick’s Scrappy Little Nobody were easy. I liked them, but i didn’t feel like I needed to catch every bit.
