I usually read suspense/mystery/thriller books and need something different. Any suggestions?

Hi all! I’ve been in a reading lull and it’s really starting to bug me. I think I need a palate cleanser. I usually ready suspense/mystery/thriller books and need something different. Any suggestions? I’m open to anything!

Epic fantasy: A Song of Ice and Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Dark Tower, etc. For one offs I like Replay by Ken Grimwood or Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. Some of the classics as well such as The Sorrows of Young Werther, Candide, Heart of Darkness, Siddhartha, Zorba the Greek, Jekyll and Hyde. I’ve found all of those to be great. If you want to get weird, The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart.

I’ve felt like that before after reading some heavy material for awhile and read the Percy Jackson series because it is so light, fun, and easy. Something like that may be what you are searching for. I like Greek mythology so it worked out well.

I agree with using YA to reboot. I just finished Tell Me Three Things and now I’m ready to dive back into that nonfiction book that slows me down so!

Anything by Sophie Kinsella especially Undomesticated Goddess or the Shopaholic series. She is my go to author when I need something light hearted

Read a quick, trashy romance. Nice fast way to jazz things up, with little effort.

I just finished Truth or Beard – hilariously trashy romance, and I now have a crush on a fictional man named Cletus, LOL

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. Highly recommended!! Uplifting but not at all saccharine or trashy.

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. So weird but cool, I was on the edge of my seat, and also laughed out loud.

I loved the format of Illuminae by Aime Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – science fiction presented via emails, documents, instant message conversations, etc. I’ve been reading it for a while, because my e-ink reader wouldn’t open it, and reading it on my phone sucked. Once I got the physical book, I finished it in two days!

Now I’m trying to decide what’s next…

Mr Holmes, by Mitch Cullin although it involves some crime solving, it’s mostly about Holmes as an old man and his friendship to a young boy
