I tried reading The Nightengale three times. I couldn’t get into it. Anyone else? It got great reviews.

I tried reading The Nightengale three times. I couldn’t get into it. Anyone else? It got great reviews.
I loved it! So many different emotions! But every book is not for everybody!
I am currently reading The Nightingale. Love it.
What?!?! It’s my all time FAVORITE book. It’s SO good. Maybe try again? ?
maybe try audio???
The audio helped me. I really enjoyed this but there was something repetitive in the language that kept bugging me.
My favorite read of 2018.
It takes some time to get into but is worth it. I found the first chapters a bit boring — until I finished the book. Then, the first chapters came alive to me and I reread the beginning.
Not my favorite at all. Different books for different Readers!
One of my favorites! However, not every book will be favored by every reader. Maybe stick with it a little longer. Hope you do find it to be a good read ?
One of my favs. Loved it.
I thought the first half was slow, but when I got past that I couldn’t put it down.
I couldn’t get into it either. May have to try again but I don’t hold out any hope!
I just started it, about 6 chapters in, and I’m hooked! But I love historical fiction!
I loved it!
I loved it. Long, but good.
One of my favorite books, but I can totally understand that it takes a bit to really get into it and you have to be in the right mood for it
I didn’t enjoy it. I read it for my book club otherwise we would have broke up long before the ending. And generally I love historical fiction. I was disappointed I didn’t like it.
I loved it!
Loved it!
Loved it!
I couldn’t get into in either. I tried reading the book, then the audio version and didn’t get very far.
Yes I felt that way about this book where everyone else loved it.
loved it, too, surprisingly, b/c don’t like her earlier novels.
I HATED it. Hate read it. Full of cliches and predictability and bad writing (the code name was the translation of the last name?$ as well as anachronisms (hummingbirds in France! Iceboxes!) I’ll never read this author again.
@Gwen I’m so happy you feel the same! My best friend and her mother loved it. I was so confused why…
@Jamie if the one woman remembered backing into her husbands arms she did it 10 times. Constantly TOLD about Isabelle’s beauty never shown it. Just bad writing.
I loved it
I really liked it
Was one of my favorites.
I didn’t like it at all. Easy style to read but I didn’t like it.
I absolutley loved it one of my top 5 books of all time!
One of the best books EVER.
I listened to the audiobook. I would t have finished otherwise.
I read it but didn’t enjoy it.
I gave it 4 stars on goodreads!
5 stars
I loved it
So, I read a ton of WWII fiction – def. my fave genre. So without reading the summary of the book, I bought it. And based on the title I (stupidly) assumed that one of the sisters became a nurse…florence nightengale, the nightengale…its where my mind went. So, for the first half of the book I couldn’t figure out when the nursing was going to happen….I enjoyed it, but I liked her other book set in this time (Winter Garden) so much more. And there are many, many books in this genre I would rank above it on my faves list.
@Janna I loved Winter Garden
@Janna it’s called The Nightingale which is a bird
Yes, I get that. But in my mind I made the leap to Florence Nightengale and then nursing.
@Janna it’s called The Nightingale which is a bird
Loved it, couldn’t put it down.
I loved it, thought it was one of the best I read that year. But there are books that everyone seemed to think was great and I didn’t like at all. Reading tastes are very individual, just as those who prefer one painting over another. The one thing that binds us together is not the books we like, but our love of reading.
@Roxann ???
Amen!
Outstanding
I loved it!!
I loved it, too.
My book club is reading it, but I can’t get into either.
So good!!! Keep reading!
Loved,loved, loved it!!!
The Nightingale is being made into a movie
It took me a bit to really get into it, but once I was in it, I was hooked.
This is one of my favourite books ever!!
One of my favorites read it twice
Loved it
I had to go back to it a few times. It was a good story, not a favorite.
I loved it!
Same! I’m only halfway through. I started about 2 years ago. It just feels so slow to me.
2 years, You do have determination. I no longer force myself to read a book.
@Barbara it was about two years ago. I have long given up on returning to it.
Loved it!
I loved it! One of my favorites!
It was tough in the beginning but eventually got better although that was about 3/4 of the way through.
It’s worth persevering!
Loved it also!
Loved it
Goldfinch was the novel with a bird’s name that I wished I hadn’t lost the time reading. I loved Nightingale.
@Jean SAME
Did NOT like The Goldfinch. What a slog!
Goldfinch was okay. I didn’t understand how it won a Pulitzer Prize.
I ended up liking it, but I did not care very much for the writing. I would move on, if I were you. I’ve had the experience where everyone else loved a book (Wild by Cheryl Strayed comes to mind) and I just couldn’t get into it.
It was just okay. Much better books of this genre have been written
Agreed!
I had parts where I thought I was going to give up on it but it’s worth it to keep going all the way through on it.
One of my favorite books.
Thought it was really good
# 1 Disliked on my list.
A wonderful book.
You should stick it out. The ending is a shocker.
Was a great book. Maybe put it down and try it again later
Personally I think it would be very odd for everyone to like the same books and not sure why it matters. I could care less if someone dislikes a book I love or vice versa and honestly have never felt the need to let others know. IMO.
The audiobook was terrific!
While I loved The Nightengale, I hated her most recent book “The Great Alone”.
@Barbara based on the nightingale she does not write very well
@Gwen – I listened to the The Nightengale. I enjoyed the story but others may not.
@Barbara I didn’t like it either.
I loves that book so much!
@Barbara I couldn’t finish it. Sad cuz I loved Nightingale.
And – I LOVED The Great Alone. Everyone is different!
One of my favorite books ever! We read it for book club and every one loved it! The Great Alone was not as good.
Very good book!
It took me a little while to get into it, but I am really glad I read it. I learned so much about WWII that I had never heard about.
I also liked The Great Alone but it was totally different!
I loved it, too. However, all of my friends thought The Goldfinch was “amazing”, and I really disliked it. Different strokes for different folks! Happy reading, everyone. ??
I didn’t like The Goldfinch either. Couldn’t finish it.
I listened to it on audio.
You will miss a great book of you ditch it Whispersync is excellent on this novel It’s atmospheric accents and all Get few chapters in and you will
I couldn’t get into it either. Gave up halfway through.
@Lynne – life is too short to waste on a book you just can’t get into. Even if others love the book – you gotta do you
It is a very good book, but that said I have had to ditch books that others have liked.
Actually I thought our book club discussion made the book alot more likeable. LOL?
Loved it!!! Couldn’t put it down !!
That was the best book. The beginning is a bit draggy but hang in there it heats up and you won’t want to put it down.
Loved it.
I loved it xo but that’s why we’re not all reading the one book at the one time
i enjoyed the story but the writing was so so….
maybe audio would help
Loved every second of that book, it’s a masterpiece!
I think the movie is coming out Friday. ? It’s a good one because the book was wonderful.
Wow I thought it was a great book. The strength of Women in desperate times.
LOVED this book!
I just read 10 Little Girls by Willow Rose. I really enjoyed it. Loosely based on the school bus was that buried with kids on it.
@Dorothy – a school bus with kids inside was buried?
@Barbara Yes. In 1976 in Chow chills, California school bus was buried with 26 kids. Look it up on google.
Chowchilla, California
stay with it, it is so good, so so good
