I just finished this. It is a page turner. It’s the last book of a trilogy. The first book is Keeper of the Light. It got me out of a current reading slump.

If you like historical novels The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillippa Gregory is one of the most engaging books l’ve ever read. And probably the fastest I ever read a book that length in.

Mysteries and psychological thrillers work best for me when I’m in a slump. Anything by Agatha Christie, Jeffery Deaver, Tana French, John Verdon, and Mary Higgins Clark’s earlier books are all hard to put down.

Jonathan Kellerman is a good mystery writer.

I was reading “To Hell and Back” and that was a tough one. WWII accounts from a first hand perspective is hard to stomach. It was days I didn’t want to read. It was a great book but goodness it would sap everything out of me

1
Yannie

I love you girl. I didn’t think anyone knew her. She and I use to email each other on her fan page. She knows my name. Read ALL of them!!! Loved Turnip to pieces.

1
Yannie

I had a few favorites too.

0
Sylvia

Lol. Oh yes. I found her on her page and said thankyou… 🙂 Dunno why, but I always loved the Scarlet Pimpernel so finding these….! <3 Actually, I had never heard of Lauren Willig until I found two of her books in an op shop and was attracted to the covers so bought them and read one, then had to find the ones before it!

Yannie

@Sylvia favorite story too. I have the 80s TV movie on dvd

1
Yannie

You are reading the Christmas one right? With Turnip?

0
Sylvia

yep 🙂 Reading the Christmas one with Turnip. Yep, with Jane Seymour, just saw that one last night. I recall an earlier colour one, not seen the 80’s one beforehand….

Yannie

@Sylvia never saw that one. Did t know it existed. “Seduction of the Crimson Rose” was one of my big favorites next to the Christmas one with Turnip that I loved. Ialso read the novellas on kindle as well.

Sylvia O’Neill I do remember the black and white. It was with Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon. Loved it as a child.

I normally just ride out the storm. Keep away from trying to read but I still go into book stores and charity shops. Maybe pick up a magazine but not a newspaper unless its a local one. Then before you know it you’ll be reading a book again. Works for me anyway

I was in a reading slump once, that I remember, I hated bookstores. Of course, that is where I always wanted to be, but to me, I would go around and have growl & in a half yell say, “like all these books are the same, grab them throwing them to the ground and stomp off.” (In my mind that is what I did) but I walked in and saw this book that looked like nothing I had ever read before and it wasn’t, so that helped me get over my reading slump. The book was the ‘Glass Castle.’ Read a book that is like nothing you would ever read, but it sounds good, maybe that is our problems why we get in reading slumps, because we read what we feel comfortable with, read something that is uncomfortable, maybe something that scares you.
