Is Tony Hillerman ok? I’ve read one book of him I loved it it’s a mystery on Navajo reservation (About two Navajo tribal police mystery the one I’ve read of this series was muder/mystery) I don’t know for sure if all of them were a muder/mystery
Not really young adult, but the Mathew Corbett series by Robert mccammon is wonderful. It’s set in the 1800s and in the first book, Speaks the Nighbird, he’s a young lawyer trying to defend a woman accused of using witchcraft to murder. Gripping…. great, in depth characters, not supernatural. I loved every book in the series. It’s not YA but it’s still an easy read.
The Naturals series its said to be like criminal minds for the ya world. Its 4 books and soo good!!

Gotta recommend the Prey Series by John Sandford.
I liked Karin Slaughter Grant County series. Its a detective/ Medical examiner main characters.
This isnt YA tho. Can be quite graphic
