@Rachel they don’t go by the books. Season one was the only season they stuck close to the book. After that, they went nuts with changes.
I actually liked the show better than the books – til S5. That season was just WTF. The show was more about all of the characters, not just Sookie. There are TONS of vamp books out there – depends if you want fluff or vampires

Chloe Neil’s Chicagoland Vampires series. I have read Twilight multiple times and own all of the books and the movies. And I loved the Chicagoland series. Its long. 13 books plus 1 in the new spinoff ( DONT read that one until youve read the series), but its worth it!

Julie Kagawa Immortal Rules series, Once bitten twice shy series, Chicagoland vampires, house of night, vampire academy, immortal promises, vampire kisses, the strain, Anne rice books, buffy the vampire Slayer and Angel novel and graphic novel adaptations, the 13 bullets series (phenomenal!!!) The Dresden files books, Salem’s lot, circue du freak, vampire diaries, Shadowhunters series and affiliated offshoots, the true blood based ones my Charlene harris, Anita Blake series, that’s all I can remember right now
i only got one book of Kagawa and got side tracked. I

House of night, the Morgnaville Vampires are my LITERAL F A V O R I T E, the Blue Blood Vampires are great, the Thirst series if you’re into a darker theme, Vampire Diaries if you’re into chick flicks. Uhmmmmm. Goodness Thirsty is goodbye but very dark. Vladimir Toof is decent. What’s that one with the circus people and the bite? God. It was made into a cheap movie.
