Most of the YA books now have simple covers with crowns in the middle and titles like “Shadow and Bone” “Coral and Bone”. Always with two nouns and one ‘and’ in the middle
Ive noticed a similarity where theres typically a male printed on the cover shirtless which bas nothing to do with the book and then a two noun title. I notice it when i go.to book stores. Ah cant forget the filter layer that sits over them.
I have only seen one like this ? called angel ( he was shirtless ) but think that was the main character. LOL sadly some time since I been to a bookstore so maybe it changed ??
Some are similar. Some are different. The book I’m writing won’t have any And or Daugher in it. As it is called – The truth about hell – but yeah, many have simple covers now. But it really depends on what the author want, some want covers with a lot going on, others want a simple one? seen a lot of both
@Julienne yet to read that series, have it in English and in my language. But won’t read it before I’m done with mine. Are they good? Read some of book 1 and absolute despised the movie????
You will find that in all genres. I tried to release my PNR duology with a ‘different’ cover. But then people didn’t buy it as much, so I’ve had to change it to conform to ‘commercially acceptable standards’ 🙁
Many years ago i read a book and the character in the book was describing a bag of books someone had given her. I don’t recall the exact wording, but it was something like, “They were those gothic novels, where there’s a girl in a nightgown running away from a castle on the cover. The girl, the nightgown, and the castle were different, but all the books had a girl in a nightgown running away from a castle.”
I took a creative writing course this past semester and one of our assignments was to write something with lots of cliches in it, so I used that scene and a bunch of other cliches.
I unfortunately did not read the whole assignment before I started, because the second part of it was “how would you fix your cliches” and I had made them such an integral part of the scene there wasn’t any way to fix it.
I don’t ?
I have a few young adult novels on my shelf but they don’t look similar or even sound similar

@Julienne I’d say some of them are similar, but most aren’t. Xx
That’s done on purpose as a marketing technique.
I know. ?
Not something I’ve noticed and I own and read alot of YA ?

The mortal cup series is a big one
Never heard of it, but now quite interested just to see how it looks??
And I’ve notice other books have “Girl” in the title
Yes!
And most romance books too
With shirtless dudes and almost-kissing couples?
And so many “The ____’s Daughter”. I keep seeing them
Noticed that too!
There are a lot of similar titles and covers out there lol
I totally agree ?

The book that I’m writing is entitled as “The Vale of Ruins” so it’s like “City of Bones” HAHAHAH
@Julienne yet to read that series, have it in English and in my language. But won’t read it before I’m done with mine. Are they good? Read some of book 1 and absolute despised the movie????
@Sara I haven’t read it yet ?? But I really want to read it!

That’s sad?
People judge books by their covers nowadays.
@Julienne They always have 😉
Quite a few genres do this – have you seen this ?
Mostly Nicholas Sparks
I hate the movie cover. Hate it!
Nope I haven’t seen that at all.
Out of my 700 books (consisting of majority of YA and some Adult sci-fi and fantasy) MAYBE four or five look similar. Otherwise, nope.
It’s not a coincidence.
And the plot is usually near the same as well

Half & half by JL Smith is not the same.
I haven’t seen another cover like that one before.
But yes a lot are similar and it’s sad.
