Definitely David Eddings. Start with the series The Belgariad, and go from there. Fantastic writer! Excuse the pun! But best ever! I keep re-reading them ever so often.

If I had to pick one author it would be Robin Hobb… but also love Raymond E Feist, Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, Trudi Canavan, David Eddings…probably forgetting some others! Oh, and recently read The Demon Cycle by Peter Brett… absolutely loved that series; it’s 5 books and some additional novellas.

Terry Brooks’ Magic Kingdom series, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series (Dragons!), The Halfblood Chronicles by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey (The first book is The Elvenbane), Robin Hobb’s Assasin series, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah Maas, Song of Sorcery by Elizabeth Scarborough, The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan and The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter and the sequel, European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss. I have more to recommend, but would need more specifics about your taste. 🙂

My area of expertise! Throne of Glass or the Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes, the Eon duology by Alison Goodman, Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake, The Novice by Taran Matharu, or the Red Queen series. Just a few recommendations.
