Love Sugar Magic– might appeal to the girl more, but it’s about a Mexican girl discovering that her family are witches and that their bakery is used for magic etc. I think the second book is coming out soon, it’s so heartwarming and it’s got a great cover as well!! Undercover Princess is also super good. Also the David Baddiel books, the Explorer by Katherine Rundell, the Magisterium series, Septimus Heap and the Secrets of Nicholas Flamel are great for both <3

How To Train Your Dragon. Narnia. Dahl (like sort of a prelude to Orwell in my opinion). If you don’t mind, some classics like Twain’s books, Catcher in the Rye might be too soon. Animal Farm (iconic), Secret Seven is good as well

Percy Jackson for sure, there are three series in that world, plus the Kane Chronicles which is VERY similar (by the same author)
The 39 clues
Heist Society
Gallagher Girls series
Hex Hall
Chronicles of Narnia
Miss Peregrines series

A book I recently read was Falling Kingdoms, it’s like a young adult (very tame) version of game of thrones with all the characters having a connection or reason to rule the kingdoms. There is some battle/violence and it is young adult so it would probably be suitable for a mature 12/13 y/o or older, but it’s a good series to look into!
