The green mile, 11/22/63, the Bill Hodges trilogy, different seasons which is a book of novellas/short stories including the stories that the movies Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption are based on.
If you don’t want to be scared, stay away from The Stand. Since the events that unfold in THAT book could actually happen in real life, that’s one of his scariest, In my humble opinion.
The Gunslinger series is not horror. It’s very good, but you have to be ready for it. Read the first, couldn’t grasp it. Four years later I couldn’t put it down. Made me late for work and almost got me fired. Under the Dome is pretty good, although some argue the ending was … stereotypical. Can’t say more without spoiling it.
That’s the whole idea of reading his books. I liked the Gunslinger series. Mr. Mercedes trilogy, & Under the dome. Now I’m reading the Outsider. I grew up watching the Hammer Horror shows on tv. A little scary/mysterious is ok. Not slimy grossout aliens!
Yes it is. Slow start but SK always develops his characters very well. I’m almost done and would recommend it. I got my copy from the library. Out library here is excellent so I don’t by very many books anymore.
It’s definitely a stand alone novel but has references to previous characters in his other books. I like that about him. Doesn’t detract from your reading.
Yes! Psychological thrillers are much scarier than monsters and boogie men to me. This was one of the most disturbing books he’s written in my opinion. The story under the story, the main character not being who you think he is, the last image of him sitting down to eat that pie…super creepy!
You don’t read a Stephen King book unless you want the tar scared out of you. That’s the whole point. ?
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
None all of them have a creep factor to some extent.
11/22/63…it’s the best. And not scary..it’s suspenseful and written so well
Eye of the dragon!!
Needful Things

Misery
Are you joking? She hobbles the writer. Keeps him captive. Murders the sheriff. Gives a whole new meaning to “number one fan”
Not joking. I found it disturbing in ways but not my idea of scary. I never finished Christine because it scared me more.
The green mile, 11/22/63, the Bill Hodges trilogy, different seasons which is a book of novellas/short stories including the stories that the movies Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption are based on.
Misery is one of his finest. His short story collections are cool.
If you like fantasy, The Eyes of the Dragon. The Green Mile is a good one with a bit of paranormal activity, but not the terrifying sort.

Under the Dome was my least favorite SK book, it’s the only one of his I never finished
@Mandy I agree. I much prefer his older work (Mr. Mercedes wasn’t bad) but since @Diane asked for something that wasn’t particularly scary…
He girl who loved tom gordon
They are not scary
11/22/63
Under the dome is more mystery than horror
The Eyes of the Dragon. I think it’s his best.
Eye of the Dragon

is The Outsider good? I just bought it but haven’t read yet.

I’m reading outsider, sooo good?
Thinner
I disagree, Thinner was super scary to me.
@Mandy really?
Yes! Psychological thrillers are much scarier than monsters and boogie men to me. This was one of the most disturbing books he’s written in my opinion. The story under the story, the main character not being who you think he is, the last image of him sitting down to eat that pie…super creepy!

11.22.63. Fantastic book
The dark tower series, misery, bag of bones
The Wind Through The Keyhole. Hearts in Atlantis.
Gwendy’s Button Box.
That is a tough order! The Dead Zone doesn’t have supernatural creatures in it.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
Joyland, Lisy’s Story
