So many adaptations are poorly made, I’d recommend The Giver, The Green Mile, The Fault In Our Stars, The Godfather, The Help, The World According To Garp, Water For Elephants, To Kill A Mockingbird, and I’ve read it in the comments – The Book Thief, Shawshank Redemption. I didn’t read The Wizard of Oz, love the movie.

The English Patient – the movie is very different so you get a new experience of the story (both are very good). Out of Africa is another. Blixen/Dineson’s writing is superb. One of the best opening paragraphs ever and they open the movie with it too, it’s that good 🙂

IT, by Stephen King. Then the movies, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 next year.
Or if you want something much shorter, try 2 novellas from Different a Seasons, by Stephen King: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (movie: The Shawshank Redemption); and
The Body (movie: Stand By Me)
