Yes but The books are a lot different.
Totally different storylines… I liked the show over the books personally
Hated the books, couldn’t get past the author’s writing to get to the ghost writer

Love L.j Smith but Vampire Diaries is definitely not my favorite of hers. The ghost writer did that series dirty…not that her writing was horrible but it went completely off tangent and made it pretty much unreadable. Like a new series but using the loved characters and backstory lol I definitley liked the books (1-4) more than the tv series but the book is pretty juvenile and the main character is a little tropey (is that a word ?) for my tastes.

I personally think the books are not good and are too different from the show. I absolutely love the show, but I read the first book and didn’t really like it at all. It’s written for younger audiences too (think 13-15 year old girls), so I felt very disconnected from the writing and characters since I read it as a 22yo. Lol
Jasmine Crane The show was different from the original source material. Saying you didn’t like the books because they were different from the tv show isn’t fair considering the book (1-4) came first.
I thought the books were awful.
The original four are definitely worth the read. Like them better than the show. I still enjoyed the show especially Damon.

The books are very different from the show. One of the very few occurrences where I prefer the TV show over the books
