I don’t read much romance, but have found several really good, smart, entertaining authors. What type do you like?
Lisa Kleypas — regency. Penny Reid — quirky modern rom-com. Lucy Parker — contemporary London theatre. The Hating Game — modern workplace rom-com. Mary Stewart — classic romantic thrillers. Laura Griffin — modern romantic thrillers. Elizabeth Peters — fun, romantic mysteries. Susanna Kearsley — hard to define, but good.

I have always like Susanna Kearsley- romancy but not over the top with some time travel and the like. Try The Shadowy Horses or The Rose Garden.

Column of Fire doesn’t reach the standard of the first two books. It is more than 33 hours on an audiobook. I gave it 12 hours and quit.

To Tempt the Wolf by Terry Spear was fun. I don’t read many girlie books but the Wolf issue & likeable characters won me over.

I normally don’t like romance but I loved this action packed story: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17165966-palace-of-spies

Mary Stewart’s romantic suspensers are quite exciting. Madam, Will You Talk? is a good one, as is This Rough Magic, and Airs Above the Ground. Legend in Green Velvet by Elizabeth Peters is a fun romantic suspense novel.
