Splintered series is about Alice and it’s awesome!
@Esmeralda great! I love Alice too! I need to add it… Thank you ?
Who’s the author of the splintered series?
AGHoward
Totally second this.
One of my favorite series!
Cinder is a good series. There is a new Cinderella anthology out called Kingdom of Glass and Ashes. Janette Rallison’s My Fair Godmother series is amazing. Princess of Glass is a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling. I have an Alice in wonderland retelling called Head Case. Head Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HB6MMLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_eK9lCbN50C9R4
Spin the Dawn comes out in the summer which is comparable to Mulan I’ve heard.
For retellings I did love Girls of Snow and Glass which is Snow White. I also loved Spindle Fire.
Also, I found this that Epic Reads created at some point.
I’m surprised nobody’s added 1001 nights retellings to those flowcharts, they’re some of my absolute faves.
I write a contemporary fantasy series that reworks the Arabian Nights and Grimm stories and weaves them into the universe I write in, if that’s of any interest?
@Gareth Mine too. A Thousand Nights by EK Johnston is one of my favorites
@Niki there’s something really chilling and beautiful about old magic that got me from the first time I saw a Sinbad movie. And, to be fair, some of those old time maidens were real butt-kickers! ?
Right? It’s one of the reasons I like The Hundredth Queen series. Not a 1001 nights retelling, but a very similar vibe
As old as times, it’s not a retelling it’s more like a, what if…?
For example the first book; beauty and the beast.
What if Bells mother cursed the beast?
I haven’t read it yet but I will soon. Looks interesting. …and I’m not helping I guess???♀️
@Magdalena helped me! I’m off to look them up right now! ?
Chandra hahn has a series called unnchanted. It’s really good
Heartless is an amazing Alice in wonderland type book. It’s not exactly a retelling. More just how the Alice and wonderland world came to be
I second this! It completely destroyed me but was SO worth it
Is this heartless book the one marissa meyer was the author?
Yes
Is this stand-alone. I’m really curious I think I want to buy it right now if it is stand-alone
@Sharmaine it is a standalone!
Just great.
Let me know what you think about it ?
Okay. *adds another book to my piles of tbr* *facepalms* when will I ever get finished? ?
Trust me I understand lol my TBR pile is out of control
My TBR pile is more like two TBR bookcases so I feel you both right now ?
Definitely adult content, Alice by Christina Henry is a horror retelling of Alice in wonderland
Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter is another!
I saw this at a bookstore. Have you read it? Is it good? What is it all about?
@Sharmaine I have read the series! It follows Alice (Ali) who grows up with her parents and sister in a fortified bunker of a house. her father raves about how he refuses to let the family go anywhere at night because there were monsters. He becomes an alcoholic and after one fateful night when the family is driving home from an event at night everyone is killed, except Ali. She sees the monsters for the first time that night and learns her father wasn’t as crazy as he appeared. She joins up with a team of teens who help to stop the monsters from preying on the innocents who can’t see them and from the corporation trying to weaponize them.
It CAN get very cheesy at times, but I’m a sucker for action and swoony romance!
Flame in the Mist is a Mulan retelling.
Hunted is a Beauty and the Beast retelling.
A Touch of Gold is about the cursed daughter of King Midas who has magic gold powers and faces pirates and betrayers on her quest to retrieve her father’s stolen gold. (It’s my book published by HarperCollins in August.)
Once upon a time tv series is now books and graphic novels too ?
I’m currently reading A Blade so Black, it’s and alice retelling and really good so far!
@Jennifer looked it up and this looks awesome!
Serena Valentino’s vilian series having the retelling of vilians
Heartless, splintered, christina Henry’s books, reflection, queen of hearts
This is a great story about how Ursula became who she is
Following
The wizard of oz one…thinking called Dorothy must die.???
Splintered series by AG Howard.
Alice in zombie land. It’s a completely different direction. But excellent series.
Alex Flinn’s books and Tale as Old as Time by Liz Braswell! DNF A Whole New World bc I don’t feel that it stayed true to the characters.
In advance flame in the mist pretends to be a mulan retelling but isn’t really reviews on goodreads say a similar thing. There is a proper mulan retelling coming out in the near future, I’ll reply with the authors name just need to find it
I love those too. I’ve been collecting them lately.
YA: Check out books by Melanie Cellier**, Kaylin Lee**, Kenley Davidson, A.G. Marshall, and K.M Shea*** (top pick). And of course the more well-known Robin McKinley and Gail Carson Levine.
Adult (some are a little explicit): Lidiya Foxglove***, Vivienne Savage**, and Nikki Dean**.
I’ve read and enjoyed others, but I prefer ones with creative new worlds. K.M. Shea, Melanie Cellier, and Kaylin Lee’s are the most compelling for me. They changed the stories a lot and definitely improved on them.
Vivienne Savage’s are really interesting because each story is more like a blend of several.
Lidiya Foxglove mixes races in hers with your favorite characters rewritten as goblins, elves, and more. However, it is explicitly adult. Haha
Nikki Dean’s also have strong adult content, but the characters are fun.
Most or all of these are on Kindle Unlimited. I recommend getting a one month subscription and just trying out a ton of authors to see whose writing you like. That’s what I do.
For Alice try Frank Bedor’s “The Looking Glass Wars.”
Also Marie Hall/Jovee Winters “Her Mad Hatter” is good. The writing and storyline in the series has issues, but that’s the first book and it was fun. It also has explicit adult content.
I love the splintered series by A G Howard! It’s one of my Alice retellings I’ve read so far!
Mercury Rising by Scarlett Kol is a Robin Hood retelling.
The lunar chronicles by marissa Meyer
Alice by Christina Henry ?
This is one of my favs a twist of beauty and the beast
Mercury Rises by Scarlett Kol!!! It’s a robin hood retelling but the female MC is Robin Hood. It’s more hackers vs men in tights. Soooo good!
Mercury Rises https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078QZPYG9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lV8lCbA4CPWE5
Look up Elle lothlorien
Insanity series by Cameron Jace. Interesting Alice story sorts horror
Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter is wonderful
Any by Melanie Dickerson
Reflection, Elizabeth Lim
Flame in the Mist is a really good Milan retelling! Heartless for Alice. And if you want a little mermaid retelling, To Kill a Kingdom
Mulan*
Well I only read Dorothy Must Die. Retelling of The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy turns evil. Its a great read!
