No go for me. I can barely walk without running into walls, let alone with a book in my hand too lol.

I take a book to the gym. It’s the only way I can get through a session on the stationary bike.

I can barely walk whilst walking (I’m VERY clumsy) so I think for me it’ll be asking for trouble ?

I listen to books a lot so can walk doing so. But, walk and read, haven’t tried it but doubt I could. Good for you. ?

I have a friend who does that and never seems to have come to any harm. BUt personally I would not risk it.

walking into strangers in one thing…. lamp posts hurt!!

3

I do, but I’m indoors when I do. Audio books or podcasts outside.

Yes, but not actual print books, audiobooks. Definitely takes the boredom out of exercise, housework and car rides.

Lol. I am a person who would fall in a hole, or trip. I like the idea of audio books for my walks, though! Then I can read even more.

I do that too.. Only in environments where I am safe and know the path well though. But gotta admit, the whole trying not to bump into people or things takes a bit away from the experience. But with some books, when the plot thickens… ??‍♂️?

Jennifer

No way! I can’t even walk and talk without tripping or bumping into something! ?

I do it all the time, it’s all about that peripheral vision.

I do it all the time at work. People always say “how can you see where you’re going?” Same way you do when you walk and look at your phone.

2
Reply
Cassie

Lol. They ask me that even though I am reading on my phone when at work. WHILE they are doing something on theirs.

Jocee

I’m from New York therefore, I need to be attuned to my surroundings at all times.

If I could do that I wouldn’t be so fat. It’s just too hard to follow the words while I’m bouncing around.

Audiobooks has made this possible and without the hazard of walking into things which indeed I have done in the distant past while reading.

I walk every morning for exercise. If I’m able to read at the same time I’m not working hard enough. ?

1

Christine

Sounds dangerous unless you’re “listening/reading”

1

I trip when just walking. I can’t even begin to think of how many face plants I’d take if I walked and read at the same time.

3

Sarah

I would trip and fall. ?

2

Stacey

I have done that! But now I’m older and out of shape, I fear falling. 20-year-old me would have been fine in a fall with the muscles and reflexes I used to have… ??

My librarian walks to work reading. I used to drive in the 80s reading. Interstate no traffic book on steering wheel eyes on road and words

For me that would be asking for trouble. I’d hit something or hurt myself definitely.

Not with a physical book. I imagine myself walking into people, lamp posts, traffic, and more. Where I live – WAY in the country – it would more likely be a deaf deer, the river, or a steaming pile of goose poop. And in either place, I really like to hear what’s going on around me, so I guess that rules out audiobooks, too.

Most pedestrian paths are also paths for runners and cyclists. One of the great hazards is someone moving in such an area with their head pointed down at their phone or tablet. You are traffic, and in traffic. Respect that.

Yes, I do, too, but we need to be careful. I walk in the forests we have nearby and once walked into a tree that had come down across the path. I now make sure to scan ahead.?

No, I cannot do such…plus I take notes oftentimes when reading so as to assist my memory later on. And, then I can reference these when making posts. I do think it’s awesome you can do this!!

1
