I asked Joe Hill about this when I met him and he went on a 10 minute rant about how it’s ridiculous that people don’t consider audiobooks to be as good as reading
I count them. It may not be reading in the traditional sense, but it’s still someone reading the book to you, and you hearing the story. It’s a great way to hit your word count, because most audio books are between 6-12ish hours of listening. You can get through a book in a day, or two, while you are doing other things, like dishes, or laundry, or driving.
Why wouldn’t they? I guess if someone is a stickler for traditional ways. It really helps me read often with my long drive to and from work. Also, because of that, I read more often in the book or kindle version
I never counted them until this year (2017). My library has so many books that are only available on Overdrive or Hoopla that you can’t get in a paper book. I love them as I don’t have to mess with CD’s in the car. Download them to my tablet and listen while I drive.
Yes they do.
I think so too. I was just curious
I hope so.
No
Yes
Yes
Absolutely. They’re books. Science agrees! https://www.thecut.com/2016/08/listening-to-a-book-instead-of-reading-isnt-cheating.html
Yea why not?
It should
Of course, they’re books you take in through your ears instead of your eyes or fingers.
yup
Yes, in my opinion
I add them in. I still experienced the book
Yes
Of course they do. It’s about understanding. Comprehension.
Yes
Absolutely

I love Joe Hill so much.
There was an interesting article recently about Owen. He said his first job was making audiobooks for his dad.
@Heather yup Joe talked about that too!
If you could not see, you’d have to use your fingers or your ears. It doesn’t matter how the text gets into you, just that it does.
I always count them
Yes
Absolutely!
Yes they do
If you want them to! It’s your goal!
I live by that, I work six days a week 8-12 hour shifts. It’s the only way I can read since I’m allowed to wear headphones at work
That’s almost all I do, so yep
for me, audio goes toward my goal but not rereads
I suppose it’s personal preference.. but I consider them books, so I say yes.
I think they should.

A book is a book, of course, of course ?
I add them to my read list but not towards my goal. I’m a little picky about my goal though. I say, if you want it to count, then it counts ?
Yes I count then toward my goal.
They count!
They’re books, aren’t they?
I’ve considered it
yes because you still know every word that was said in the book. movies don’t count
Yes
Of course

Why not?
If we count information received to the brain by our eyes, why not information received to our brain by our ears?
I don’t count audiobooks.
I only count books I read as Books Read.
Of course, a book is a book whether read or listened to
Absolutely
Never been able to follow through with the audio ones
Why wouldn’t they?
I guess if someone is a stickler for traditional ways. It really helps me read often with my long drive to and from work. Also, because of that, I read more often in the book or kindle version
100% they do

That’s what I am doing!
Yes. Absolutely!
I wish there was a separate category on Goodreads. I track them myself but there needs to be a checkbox so you can search for them.
That’s a genius idea! That way you can track both physical copy/ebooks and audiobooks
Always. I retain the story the same whether I read or listen (unless the narrator sucks then it ruins the book).
I sure hope so. I add this to my reading total.
