It does stay true to the books for the first 3 mostly. Some things are changed. But that’s to be expected. Later other plots are left out but that’s probably because they didn’t want the show to go on forever and because the source material ran out.

They did good until the show outpaced the books

I felt its pace was too Quick, but very good when compared to other adaptations.

I stoped after the first book. never read a book where not one good thing not even a tiny good thing happened to any of the characters. My life is depressing enough thanks

I get it! The books are interesting, but only for the shock-value. I have read all the books so far, but I couldn’t also watch the show (at least while it stayed true to the books) because I found it terribly boring once you know what happens… But yes, terribly depressing

Note: never read The Poisonwood Bible (I know, it’s not fantasy…). It makes ASOIAF seem like sunshine and rainbows

The super short spoiler version: It’s written from the points of view of a mom and her daughters. The father is a missionary and moved the family to Africa. The book is about how they are all miserable and blame men for all their problems. The end.

At least in ASOIAF, there are some characters who aren’t miserable human beings…

The Stark kids all got direwolves for pets. That’s pretty awesome in my book. And its worth it just for Tyrions dialogue alone.

@Ann Reasons to read ASOIAF: direwolves, dragons, Arya, Bran, Tyrion. Skip the rest ?

@Michael You are so right, have decided to get rid of the books. 1 they take up too much space. 2 they are depressing. 3 Am unlikely to read them again, (see 2) thank you Michael for helping me with editing my book collection, a painful ongoing process due to downsizing.

Yeah they didn’t maintain that once the show surpassed the published works unfortunately. IMO of course.
