The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Geralds Game. The Stand. The Talisman. The Shining. It. The Green Mile…all his books. If you enjoy his “felicity of style” then there are more than enough books to satisfy your yearning. I’m an avid fan and a constant reader. But there are exceptions. I thought he cheated us out of a proper ending to The Dark Tower. I put night on 35 years of my life into that awesome tale…waiting for the next book. Not being able to afford it ’til it was on sale. And then to find out it’s just a glorified fucking Groundhog Day!?!

And I can’t read Under the Dome. It’s just so very predictable. It’s just so very…The Stand. Or Cell.

I have read ‘The Gunslinger’ and gave up halfway through ‘The Drawing of the Three’ and I strongly recommend that you avoid them.
In fact, you might be better off not reading anything by him at all.

He’s one of the most successful and prolific writers of modern times. So because you didn’t like him no-one else should even read him? How very arrogant and dismissive. Have you tried any of the other genres he writes in? Do you like the film “The Shawshank Redemption”? Because he wrote it.

The Stand, The Shining, Firestarter. I liked the first Gunslinger, but after the second and third, I lost interest. Dreamcatcher was excellent too. And of course It.

The Stand, Tommyknockers, The Shining, The Gunslinger series. It, The Stand and It are two of the best. As a side note– nobody writes about children like Stephen King.

My fave is The Stand by if I were you I’d start with his early work (Carrie) and work your way to his latest stuff.

The early stuff was during his drug and alcohol addiction, so that stuff is the best on scares for sure .. once he sobered up it changes drastically, but I still love him!!!

@Kenneth, they are books. Anthologies I believe they’re called. A collection of short stories. He’s done a couple with about 4 novellas in each collection as well. And who exactly decides what constitutes a book anyway? You?

Getting away from the horror rag, try Mr Mercedes, or the Different Seasons collection (has The Body, filmed as Stand by Me and Shawshank Redemption in it. You’ll soon see if you like his writing style and, if you do, move on to The Stand.

If you’re wanting something a bit shorter to try out his style, check out Different Seasons. It’s a collection of four short stories including The Body (the movie Stand by Me), Shawshank Redemption, and Apt Pupil.

Last year, as a project, I read everything he wrote, in order of publication. It was great to see both his evolving writing style and catching all of the connections between the books. I guess my favorite would be 11/22/63, and that’s the book I would recommend.
