I just finished it and really loved it. It can be very detailed at times. I am a voracious reader and sometimes don’t read every word in a book in a rush to get to the end. Somehow the writing in this book helped me slow down and read pretty much every word and really savor it

I want to read it, I just saw the previews for the show and now I’m intrigued. I never knew what the book was about, I automatically assumed Aliens or sci-fi

Read it years ago. Couldn’t wait for it. Today I’m a little ambivalent about it. It can be a little bit of a trudge and is more understated in it’s execution than what it was sold as at the time. But that in a way is a tribute to Caleb Carr, who takes the reader through a sort of history of 19th-century NYC. He delivers what he promises. I think it was just over hyped 🙂

I have tried to read it a few times, and can never get into it. I am hoping the new series starting next week can help me. I usually prefer to read before watching, but in this case, I am hoping for a “reverse”. Lol. I have really wanted to read it. Lol

I don’t know you but I hope you know your name is really close to the title of a famous Australian novel – ‘Playing Beatie Bow’

@Christine really!! ???I think I need to check that book out. Who is the author?

Christine

Ruth Park – it’s an older book but I think you should investigate it.

I read it a while ago and remember liking it. There is going to be a television series based on the book.

If you love reading about old New York or Teddy Roosevelt or both, it has a lot to offer. The author is a historian, after all. The cruelty put me off, however.
