If it’s not written on paper, it’s NOT a book!

@Kara A book, by definition: is a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers.

1
Kara

So your telling me, I’m not reading a “book”? Aren’t the words still the same? I can open my Harry Potter book, than open the same book in my kindle. It’s still the same. I’m just reading it in a different format. I’m still enjoying a book.

1
Daiana

You gotta consider that definition was written how many years ago? An e-book is still a book.

Kara

I prefer feeling the solidity of a book, the sound it makes when you turn the pages, when you pause a bit to smell that book scent and when you take it put to read and it feels like a friend

I also have this same problem. Printed books never slipped from our mind throughout the life.

1

I don’t really view it as a problem. Kindle and paperbacks can co-exist. I think it’s wonderful that the number of different formats (eBooks, audio books and paperbacks) means that books are accessible to everyone. Each of these formats are real books. Simply read and enjoy the format that works best for you.

My sister got a kindle when they first came out and I was so sad because she was always the one to pass her books down to me. Then she gave me her old kindle when she got the kindle fire and I was so excited at first, but when I tried it out I had to stop! I definitely need to turn pages !

I love real books, but find I read more with e-books. 1) it sounds ridiculous, but when I don’t see how big the book is, I don’t think “oh, I’ll never have time to read it”…in other words, I’m less intimidated. 2) i travel for work a lot, so I can take more books with me, and of course 3) it’s cheaper!

3

Barbara

I love real books for the totality of the experience – the feel of the pages, the sensation of turning pages, the look of the print, even the smell of the book. (I know…call me a whack job!) That said, I use my Kindle CONSTANTLY and also love reading from it. Here are the very few downsides of Kindle over “real” book – 1) I’m one who likes to go to the end and see how it all turns out when things get dicey (don’t judge) and it’s harder to do that with Kindle. Or I like to flip back and see what I read before, now that there’s new information as I get further into the book…again, harder to do with a Kindle. 2) this one is silly but when I’m reading on a Kindle and someone asks what the title of my book is, I often can’t remember! It’s not like a physical book where you have a visual reminder every time you pick up the book. These are both small negatives.

You can totally skin to the last page on a Kindle on the GO TO or see the title too! What kind do you have? But yeah I gotta agree is not “as easy” as flipping a paperback ?

Not at all.
Reading is reading.
I get the same feeling and enjoyment with reading an e book, paperback and or hardback.
Although I do prefer my e-books since I switched to it, because I always have my book and I know no matter what I will always have those books.
Never worry about the flood tornado or fire destroying on my books.
Having an e-book is like having insurance. ?

I have a good amount of novels to read on several bookshelves and have even past the love for real paper books on to my grandchildren. Who now have a large amount of books at my place we read ever night they sleepover which is every other weekend, and school holidays. They look forward to storytime before bed we read for about an hour together. Love nooks so much often ask to go to library when here.

They are better and you actually own something tangible. However, I read far more on Kindle app these days as you READ far more. It is a lot easier to whip out the phone or iPad and sneak in a few pages compared to the ritual of pulling out a paper book and sitting down to read.

My Kindle E-book backlog has become ridiculously long, but I still revert back to my print books, which also comprise a large backlog. The way it’s been going lately, I read two print books for every E-book. The real problem, which is not actually a problem (lol), is that there are always more books to buy even though I’ll never in a lifetime get through my current inventory. I’ll be book busy for the rest of my life!
