I mean. Im sure most of us do, but goodreads wasnt a thing when anyone was young. No way for it to track all of the books we have read over our lifetimes

Yvette

I keep a journal and goodreads count now, I wish I would have thought about it when I was a kid

I would say somewhere in the 500 range, not counting non-fiction, or comic books. Non-fiction would probably round me out to about 625-650. Throw in comics, and it easily over 3000.

According to Goodreads I’ve read 1,591 books. But I know that it’s higher than that since I’ve been reading since I learned how to read and I’m 47 now.

GoodReads says 1255, but before GR, who knows… I wish I had a record of which books I read and when I read them! Especially as a child/teen ❤️

@Susan, I too wish I had a written record of what I’ve read over the years. It wasn’t something that I had thought to do.

I have no idea. I am 67 and I started reading when I was about 4 years old. My first book was a cloth book called Hello,Neddy. My mother got it for me when I was an infant and read me the few words in it several times a week, according to her. She wanted me to grow up loving books. She succeeded. I have no idea how many books I’ve read.

Wow, I can’t even guess. 44 years of reading, with most of that time I didn’t keep track of books in any fashion, except to make sure they weren’t missing from my collection.

Learned to read 33 years ago, but the reading habits I have now formed aroud age 8-9. Less then a hunred books a year would be rare and so would more than two hundred, so let us say 150 a year. 30 times 150 is 4500 books. So a good guess would be ca 4500 books not counting early childhood, but in reality I have no idea. It would be strange to know the number. I love counting things like these, which can’t truely be counted. I wonder how often have I stroked a cat? Or asked myself a question out loud?

I’ve read 250 books… in just not quite 2.25 years. But I didn’t read anywhere near *this* much prior to that, hitting a known peak in that era of 53 books in 2008. So assume that 30 books per year was closer to average (probably low balling) for the 32 ish years of my life that I’ve been able to read and haven’t claimed above means that in that period, I read roughly 900 books. So I’m looking at somewhere around 1100 books lifetime?

I’ve been an avid reader since I was about 10 years old;I’m 63 now.I read 2-3 books a week, sometimes more. 52 weeks in a year,so I’ll say 100 books a year for 53 years. So about 5000 books. I don’t keep a count, but do keep a list;I just bought a book the other day and realized that I have already read it,didn’t check my list!

I am 72 years old. I only have count of the books I actually have – or have read in the past few years on Good reads – which is 2285. Everything before that, and the books I read from the library (which is how I used to get all of my books) – I do not have record of . So a lot

@Linda Me too! (In England, that is. They don’t have an English library in this little Mediterranean island of ours!) I used to go to the library, but not every week.

1

I lived with my mother and grandmother… and every Saturday we went to the library as a family outing; we walked there and back. In really bad weather we took the bus 🙂

Since 2003 have kept a sort of Book Diary. Write down Title, Author and a short sentence about book. I find it great!

How can I start a book tally? I would love to know how many I have read and watch the tally go up every month!

1
Lorrea

Goodreads is a good source. You can make shelves for your books. They give you 3 shelves, Read, Want to Read and Currently Reading. Then you can add as many as you want to your taste. Right now I have about 50 different shelves on there. You can place one book on as many shelves as you like.

2
Genna

Great! Thank you very much. Sounds like something I’d really like.
